confirm or deny, need how to on confirming fia seat legitamacy
August 16, 2014 11:43AM
Hey guys, wondering if I can get some help as to whether not I can confirm whether this seat is legitimate. I have an opportunity to purchase it for $400 but want to make sure that my money is and he'll spend as I've heard of counterfeit FIA seats out there. Any help would be appreciated on how to confirm whether it's legitimate or not

Real or Fake, it's out of date. Good for 5 years from date of manufacture...

RA doesn't require FIA seats, NASA does. If the seats are in good condition and mounted well, NASA tech may let you slide. Check with your local Tech Inspector.

You're in Canada, they Love the FIA up there, so I'll guess no pass. Again check with a local tech Inspector.

We don't enforce the date tags in the US, either group. I believe the labels are shown on the FIA site, I can dig around later tonight. We haven't recieved any warnings as to counterfit seats yet.

I haven't heard of individual seats having false FIA tags... entire manufacturer lines, yes. Seemes to me SFI tags have more of a tendency to be forged. (But I don't hear everything.)

Price seems not too bad, but I hope you plan on running in the next year.

omp still makes this seat in these dimensions, ended up getting it for 300. is 2016 the last year or you can't use it as of 2016? regardless needed it to set seat positionong for caging and can't seem to find a sparco evo3 in edmonton to sit in and had always wondered about omp "big" and tripped across this one.

The way I understand it, the seat would expire at the end of February 2017.

thats perfect thanks keith! i got four months of school in spring then i no longer have responsibility to save up for. if i have it budgeted correctly ill be doing october and november events in 2015. thanks for the info! much appreciated! the crx is mobile and plated, time to mock up a cage outta pipe installation and get it scrutinized before the real thing goes in, hence the seat, its a mm game in the crx for a guy 6'4 250

Too bad I didnt know. Gladly would have pulled a seat out of the sti for you to test fit/play with.

Jeff fits, similiar size to you it sounds like. Not that we see eye to eye often, still would have been more than happy to help.

But for $300 3 years of use ain't bad!

the fella who sold it to me is a nice gent, owns the escort/cosworth i posted in for sale (cool wheels) that may end up my co driver seat, not sure it the over shoulder belt holes are high enough for me but there's a size taller as well for 500 new but id really like a sparco evo 3 seat so i know my heavy ass has been built for. hard to find 2nd hand and in date. would like to balance the cars weighting at all four corners with seats in before cage. suspension and skid plates are after that.

thats definitely a nice seat grant, my child bearing hips and long torso make things like hockey pants and racing seats a must wear situAtion. what's on accident mean? lastly getting raped on duty and shipping jacks the cost of my build up. wanna keep this cheap and quality as possible and i still got time to collect pieces. kinda stifled me how cheap some of the omp seats are new, i'm imaginong like everthing else the price will come through in the wash(board) ruts and potholes

Maybe none of my business, and maybe it's been covered already, but why, at 6'4& 250, are you building a CRX. If you don't have a cage in the shell yet... it ain't too late. (I think there is at least one abandoned XRatty build in Deadmonton.)
