So, say I wanted to build a 1996 Civic Si coupe?

Out of any of the Honda's, is there a reason for/against doing so?

Is there a "holy grail" of fwd hondas/acuras that would be "better" for a budget build?

I am looking at a car that has a couple of things going for it (IMO):

-Completely stripped, but still rolling/drivable
-B16A obd0 swap complete with jdyam GSR lsd hydro transmission
-every rubber bushing replaced with poly bushings
-no rust (NOOOO RUSTTTT!)

I basically want to take it, add the necessary cage/safety/skid plates. I'd add Sellholm suspension (seems to be a good choice for budget rallyists in UK, proven, etc), and then rally it. Possibly rent it out.

Thoughts? For the price I can get it for, I can always part it out easily and scrap it. Somebody is interested in buying the STi. Don't know how seriously, but they've rallied before and would like to get back into things.

This is mainly mental masturbation. But the Civic is a fire sale for someone who is moving, and is cheap enough it doesn't hurt financially. On top of that, it would be great to use it in the local Honda Cup series and would allow me to get rid of the road race Swift smiling smiley

Sounds like a good deal. Proven reliable cars and capable of going fast. There are some control issues that need to be fixed if you drive hard.

Only two for-sure drawbacks I can think of to the EK 96-00 chassis compared to the other double-wishbone honduhs
* newest chassis = highest curb weight, of the civics at least. probably lighter, esp. in "race trim" than an integra though.
* stamped steel rear LCA, rather than the (I'm guessing) marginally stronger cast piece used on the other cars

no idea how the clearances in the front suspension work out - I believe the potential for 9" is there on the EF (88-91) chassis with stock bits.

The EK does have the longest wheelbase of the double-wishbone civics - 103", vs 100" or 101" for the EF and EG hatches - not sure that 2-3% is that big a deal, + or -.

92 to 95's eg chassis code require no special engine mounts for b series swaps,as well thecx chassis is the lightest of the three trims, Andrew Avery is the honda creep out at road racing to talk too. hes got some really good ideas and is constantly building custom race built hondas. I ws over a couple weeks ago scooping a hydraulic hAnd brake and he had a super charged 3.5 from am acura tl in a 96 civic coupe chassis. off to put a windshield in the crx. good luck.
give dr dave suzuki a lil jump for me would ya smiling smiley

I could, but its a moot point. Car sold.

And after some more mental masturbation, the costs to build a car are st00pid, even doing everything but the cage yourself. I still can't fathom the amount of money people would spend building a car from the ground up (no spares/suspension/tires already in your garage). It just isn't worth it. By the time I was done, including car, any 2wd car would cost me $12k.

I'll stick with my noisy car, maybe switch to pump fuel once Keith brings in rallysafe to every event spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
