Yah, allows strut/shock assembly to be about 6" longer which means 3" of extra stroke taking an 8" or 9" travel package to 11" or 12" of travel without having to cut holes in the hood for packaging. And, brings center of gravity down marginally as well. ____________________________________________________________- One. I understand why it is being done. This is the first version I have seen where it was only single sheer mounted. The other version I had seen had a contorted version of the traditional ears for a double sheer mount. |

Dunno, but I thought it odd that apparently Ford has been servicing the upright/strut/axle as one assembly, and the axle cup stays on the trans. Stick some new grease in the cup, slip the tripod in, slap the boot over it. Pete Remner Cleveland, Ohio 1984 RX-7 (rallycross thing) 1978 Silence is golden, but duct tape is silver. |

No. VW bought the Skoda factory and there's some basic commonality between VW, Skoda and Seat street cars, but there are differences.. And the rally depatments of each are separate and chasing different things. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! John, Skoda's are more than just basic commonality to VW. Skoda is a VW brand and they use all of the same platforms, hard points, and many other mechanical parts are shared across the models. It is like saying Ford and Lincoln are totally separate companies. Almost all of the changes are styling / option combinations. There has to be some relation the rally effort as well as VW campaigned a Skoda Fabia S2000 for a year before bringing back the WRC Polo. I think this car is similar in closeness to the Polo WRC car as the S2000 Fiestas are to the WRC ones. Different rule book but lots of the same ideas and parts, that share a similar design but may have lower cost materials. |

Yes, Andrew, I know.. In another world I PM and email a guy I met who just happens to be an engineer at Skoda and who volunteers on the Team and travels all over..... He was nice enough to dig thru his files for a table of their spring rates for various events which he sent, and I've been a fan of the brand since oh say 1984---and poked around and under them when I've seen 'em.. Thank kew Since you're so nice to explain this ^ for this brand I have always like help us find the answers to: What's the name of their team manager in their glory years? What driver won more class victories on the trot than any other for Skoda even top 12 against the GpB cars? And waht country did he come from? And in that car that won 13 times RAC what was the engine's origin... What engine powered the great Felicia which Stig Blomqvist drove to 3rd overall in the RAC 1996? Bore? Stroke? rod length c-c? Who consulted on the gears in the 6 speed box? Who cut the gears? How many turbo 4wd cars did Pavel Sibera and Emil Triner beat in their 1.3 Favorits at 1993 Monte Carlo? How many 2,0 A7 and N3 cars did the beat with the little 1.3? What special role did Skoda parent factory have in World History? John, since you are asking, no I do not know all of the long term history of the Skoda rally team or the political significance of its factor. All of my czech education centered on the political and cultural stuff that happened much earlier and was focused on Prague. I am interested in the Czech history, having been there 3 times. I would love to be enlightened about the historical achievements of Skoda. My awareness of them as a rally team much more recent, when they were campaigning the Octativa and later the Fabia with Armin Schwarz as the lead driver. This new generation Skoda is very Volkswagen and much less Czech. I would love to be proven wrong but I would guess that the engineering team behind both this car and the Polo WRC are likely the same. And they basically start as the same tub as both cars are built on the same VW platform. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_A0_platform |
