More power to em I suppose. They all have one thing in common, they want to have fun and stand out. I guess if I had those kind of funds and no other financial responsibilities... it'd be hard to not take a look at something unconventional like that if you already convinced yourself you won't run near the top in a spec WRC car.

thoughts...
* kudos to anybody who's able to gather up that many funds and watch 'em burn, and chooses to do so in this manner.
* Kudos to the FIA for recognizing that "lightly modified" (relative) cars like these for $300k(?) are no less interesting, and no higher barrier to entry, than the current $500+k shell-of-an-econobox-that's-barely-recogniziable WRC cars, to the general public.

pretty bummed that they chose to make the R-GT cup Tarmac only though... I get that including gravel would require a whole second kit to be homologated (see also, why the Tuthill Porsche wasn't allowed to start Rally GB 2014), but if they're trying to be competitive, teams are going to have to develop a whole different setup for the Monte anyways.

Loeb's one-off at Monte aside, I'd be just as interested (if not moreso) to watch 30 minutes of highlights of the RGT class as the WRC cars... It's not like VW isn't going to walk away with the title for a third year in a row.

How expensive is it to build, say, a new Porsche, versus a top spec Escort? Aren't those running well into the six-figures range?

Is Matt planning on sleeving back the 5.2l or something? The only class that I know of that the car is legal for is NRS's Stock Heavy.

Well, it's still beyond the displacement limits of either RA or NRS's 2WD classes (5.2l, 4v). I suppose it could run in RA's SP, or NRS's Stock Hea...er, Medium. Neither of those have caps.

Re: Supercar rally cars

Yep.

RA 10.2.A.3
For Open Class and Group 5; adjusted engine displacement must be
no greater then 5100cc using the following multipliers:
Type Multiplier
Rotary 1.8
Turbo/Supercharged 1.7
Pushrod 0.8
All applicable multipliers must be used in determining adjusted
displacement.

Group 2 is in RA 10.2.A.9, and the cap is 3080cc.

NRS 2WD limits are in Section 3.3.2, and the adjusted limit for Open 2WD Heavy is 6000cc, but the multiplier table there includes valves per cylinder among other things. Four or more is a 1.2 multiplier. For the Lambo, 5.2l * 1.2 = 6.24.

Note that he can run the 5.0l variant of the engine legally in either series. I'd thought that they only made the 5.0l variant for a brief period early in the first year, but according to wikipedia all the first-gen models were 5.0l so he's probably just fine.
