Lots of rally this weekend... what happened

A couple of notes:
We finished 5th overall out of 50ish entrants and 3rd in 2wd behind an SRT4 and a turbo Escort.

This is the first time we have driven the car at speed and intended to use Sandblast as a shakedown for the car running a stock 90hp ALH tune. The engine was rock solid all weekend and felt great --- but slow --- in the deep sand.

Learned that we may actually be making less than 90hp as we are using the stock mk2 in-tank lift pump (for gas cars) and that may actually be a bottleneck to the injection pump at higher rpm. The car felt really weak above 3500rpm. Anyone ever use an mk2 lift pump? The mk4 lift pump will not fit in the tank but I would like to have it setup with a lift pump that flows adequately for say a 175hp tune in the near future. Any advice appreciated.

Yeah, arrival time at arrival, then start time at start is the normal way to do it. It was very peculiar getting assigned a start time at a sort of floating intermediate control while there were still several cars ahead of us. Not a big deal though - I guess if there were to be an unexpected extra delay the starter would scribble out the assigned start and write in a new one.

For bikes, I would probably try to triple-staff the start. Have one person as the actual starter, one person dealing with the even-minute bikes time cards, and one person dealing with the odd-minute bike time cards. So they'd always be swapping and grabbing the card from a bike on-deck and then handing it back as the bike rolled up to the start line. Or something like that. I'm making this up as I go so maybe there's some difficulty with that I haven't foreseen.

I'm not sure what you're asking. I use a mk2 lift pump in all my Golfs. Do you want me to test the flow on one?

Overall the nooks worked well. There was some confusion at one point, where our captain recorded some extra start times, but I think that was user error (writing on a time card, using the nook as the flat surface)...

I had never worked ATC before, only start. When i did start, i put in their start minute, then sent them off. With ATC, all i was told to do was input the Checkin time. Thats what i did. although i screwed up the first time and didnt put seconds down for the bikes. I was tellin the bikers to keep the card out to give to Start. Quite a few went to put them away before i said something.

Interestingly, on the Nooks, at an arrival control or a start control it stores the time you INTEND as well as a RAW time.

For example, if a car/bike pulls into an arrival and hand you the card at 15:31:08 the "intended time" is 15:31:00. As in, it "rewinds" backward to the last top of the minute to figure out the appropriate time to capture. Simultaneously, it also records 15:31:08.583 as the actual time you touched the button. The "intended time" is the time shown everywhere on the Nook. (At a start, the intended time is the _next_ minute, and at a finish, the intended time equals the raw time.)

In every rally since we've had this data available, we've gone back to it at least once to investigate inquiries. (Intended and Raw both get uploaded.) "Oh, the control was really busy, there were four or five cars backed up and everyone was checking in at once." Well, IS that what happened? Oh, look, yeah, five presses in about 45 seconds, so yeah, the control was busy. Or... no, look at that, one press each minute, right about 8 to 10 seconds after the minute.

It has made for a very interesting additional level of recording what happened out on stage.

found that having a second person at ATC writing the vehicle nbr down and time, helped a lot when you get overhwlemed and need to go back to edit. tho i ran out of time trying to figure out where i screwed up in the nook when HR showed up. 2 people at ATC and at Start seemed to help out a lot where theres bikes involved.
