When I was deciding between a Volvo or a Merkur I liked the Volvo better because they are just always ugly and the changes to "help" are a rear spoiler and the correct headlights and grill. Cheap and easy. With the Merkur I had to have the euro headlights, grill, whale tail, and cut rear windows. All said it was like an extra $1500 just to make it into a car that didn't make me puke in my mouth every time I walked up to it.

Hah- yeah grant you're pretty much spot on.
Although personally I can live with the looks of the XR except for the front end....
it's horrendous.

On the other hand, we are talking about aesthetics, which really should be lower down the priority scale don't you think?

I guess if you're horrified and think "what I have built" every time you look at it that's not a good thing.

if you've done more then 3 rallies, chances are you're probably old and weird

Civic would be my choice. Yes the ease of making 350hp-350tq with an SRT4 and a strut suspension is attractive but unless you get one of the former factory cars it will be hard sourcing good suspension and getting the car sorted right.

Theres more Civic's being rallied around the world, so there will me more parts availability and knowledge. Lots of info on european forums even on this one......if you ask more specific questions.
