For the normal guy running a regional, $850

Only dopuble the cost of a full national in the late 90s--a whole 100% more---but for me, no contingency money from Saab ($400 for 1st in class, $400 for 1st Saab in National, half again that for dual National/Regional entry, no contingency from any tire MFG so no dough from Michelin)---

For nothing...

The point was---which since you were never around in the past----is there were contingency moneys from more than one brand and from a tire Importer...

And that relative to the prevailing COSTS, the contingency money was relatively (you understand what relative means? ) more and much broader.....


Rather that talk vague shit, Grant, why not say "For first 10 "National" entries in xx model year cars, Subaru gives back $xxx?

Isn't that more informative than vague words like "significant"
$500 back on $2200 still leaves an entry fee VASTLY higher for no visible additional anything...

Can't fault them for great marketing skills. I know it's something I use to my advantage whenever I can. Mazda might still also offer some incentives?

Honda and Ford offer some nice payouts even for regional guys.

I missed the contingency so I didn't run OTR. Quick on the draw for Olympus though. Contingency isn't the only reason I run a Subaru but it was a factor.

You are kinda a manufacturer. Do you offer any contingency?

We offered out $500 in contingencies in the form of a $100 bill at the awards ceremony to the first five of our customers that entered Idaho. A few of them skipped the awards so didn't get their loot though.

We talked about offering contingency for rallycross championships on Indy Sport tires but figure we should at least sell some of the tires before we send the cart down the hill.

Yeah Grant, my contingency is baked into the price of the parts.....

You buy the parts, you get a deal..

And no Grant it wasn't any more marketable in the 90s OR the 80s... even though many dreamed the same lame dream of "The Big Time"... It was just like now, just for fun..


It just cost a lot less relative to prevailing real world costs and wages...

Sorry to harsh your mellow with junk-n-stuff like facts, I know the rule as well as you: If it ain't on the Intra-web it never happened.

Besides, does it really make any difference if regional entry was $85 for maybe 90 SS miles in 1988/89 and $800 now?

I paid 78 cents a gallon and a buck for a pack of smokes in 97. computers and flat screen TVs were insane. Did you know I personally sold the first 60" plasma TV to hit US shores for consumers to some Russian guy for $25k back in 2004.
