A different Oregon question

In SRT USA official announcement of the win, it was stated (concerning Higgins win), "But an intermittent technical issue coupled with new rules designed to limit performance factored into the duo losing some time on Saturday".
Anyone know what the heck they're talking about?

Wasn't there some talk about tire restrictions for the front running cars? That could cause a lack of pace later in the rally if they had burned up all of their tires.

I think that was just a poorly worded sentence.
I think they were saying, "he is losing time due to technical regulations" and "lost time Saturday due to an issue with the car." That must be why they didn't win by twenty minutes.

I was telling wife how cool NZ roads were. Showed her a stage from 2003 with Solberg driving. She was as close to edge of seat as you can get laying in bed. Then we watched the Summit stage from Oregon Trail. Her reaction was priceless. "That looks so boring."

Higgins said in an interview that with the new restrictor the car has a top speed of 107mph. In the past they were over 130mph. Hard to believe 1mm smaller makes that big of an impact.

33mm with speed factor of 95 or higher is the rule. Does this mean now Higgins is slower that Adam Yeoman will have to go to a 33mm because the change in Higgins speed factor? Yeoman has speed fator of 92.77 currently.

David Sterecks was 1 sec per mile slower then Higgins after the engine change and miss was fixed on Higgins car. Thats closer then Lestage was a lot of the time in the past.

Lastly is this fair and do you all like the rule change?

34mm = 908 mm^2
33mm = 855 mm^2

1mm smaller diameter = 6% smaller hole.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that trying to shove air through two holes, one 6% smaller than the other, will result in a difference bigger than 6% on account of the turbulent air taking up a greater %age of the total airstream etc. Is it the 20% difference that 130->107 is? Probably not...



Is it fair? No.
Do I care? No.

Do I think it makes it (even more) blatantly obvious that there's no top-level competition in Rally America? Absolutely.

Didn't Subaru/Higgins say during testing for 100AW that the new car was 1sec/mile faster than last year's car?

If the top speed is now less, I'm happy. They (Higgins/Block) were getting too fast.

Funnily enough, the Dubya Arsey 1600s are quicker than the 2000cc Dubya Arsey cars were...

There was big decently technical speculation over on another forum full of dirty furriners so what they fuck they know---this is "merikuh---
The boys were doin what boys do, yapping formulas and data and shit...

I sorta said. "Youse guys all yapping about motors seem to be forgetting the motor is bolted to a gearbox..

33mm won't strangle a 1600 the same way as 34mm strangle a 2000cc motor.
So the motors will rev more.
If motors rev more, they can gear them to compensate for the motor making less TORQUEX, and the cars overall will be quicker---IF the drivers know how to drive..

And that's what came to pass..

Iddnit funny how we ignore evidence in front of the nose....The Millionair guys hire teams of Yes Men and everybody says they're making BIGGER than 2,0 motors...

that are hurt more by 34/33mm...

Seems if some where smart............................


and they could drive..............................


And they studied what has transpired in WRC............

They'd be building 1600s...

And if they knew how to keep it boilin', going faster.

Weight would only make sense.... Instead they've forced additional development costs to the pointy end of the stick.

33 vs 34mm, the engine will carry power to 5500rpms vs 6000rpms and will have about 10hp less maybe 15hp if they havent spent enough time on the tuning. It wont matter because they are still bringing a gun to a knife fight!

I think I do remember Higgins saying the new car was 1 sec per mile faster.

I guess im impressed at what David Stereks was able to do with the FY built car. He was way closer then any non factory has been in recent years. Other then Lastage. I agree the top cars are to fast.

I hope They dont spend them selves out of rally trying to go as fast as Subaru but i do like seeing a smaller team putting together a good competative car.
