Lots of misadventures for the "Top" cars, 'a senor failed" bless his heart and no FWD cars anywhere in sight, but 2 ancient RWD Fords and a old RX7 in the top ten OVERALL,

Then on the last SS, Paddon wins Overall...

Maybe those turbo 4wd cars are too complicated to keep going regardless of all the money spent?

Maybe some people claiming to know it all and "Done it all, and FWD is the best for learning rally" are just flat full of shit...seems first FWD in around 24th place...

So... as I look at getting into the sport, does that mean the following path is best?
- Rally School for fundamentals
- Get a cheap, built car, and don't stress about spec, just make sure its reliable and get to events.
- Seat time
- More seat time
- Advanced Rally School
- More seat time
- Even more seat time
- periodic coaching or advanced schools to 'touch-up'

Clearly knowing HOW to drive is key.

I don't think starting with a rally school is necessary, I would put it 3rd. Sure you may pick up some bad habits in the first couple of rallies. But you will learn how to rally. Like how to get to the stages, how to prep the car, how to setup a service, etc, etc.

And then you can focus all of your energy on being a better driver.

Yes apparently the kid can drive...and do well in a RWD,(and in FWD and AWD if you read up on him a bit).

I probably have a distorted view of the MK1 and MK2 escorts, because all I have seen of them are pics and vids of masterful drivers who just destroy in them.

Not having them available in North America the lust factor is High for me as well.

I really like the Volvo 240 or Ford Sierra as RWD choices..but picture the RWD Escort properly
set-up as Dominating those cars with the same driver.

Again..I'm probably wrong and just glorifying the RWD Escort.

You will be "taught" that:
*FWD is the BEST car to learn in because it is "most like" a awd car--unstated presumption that an AWD car is the ultimate goal
* You must master LFB Left foot braking because LFB "Is indispensable" to driving a rally car
* You must "try and maintain momentum in the corners"

They are very effective at hammering these messages into peoples heads..

And all are extremely foolish things to tell beginners..

But there is an inertia and a momentum to ideas and that is "what everybody says"

And as often is the case, what everybody says is wrong.
