That would be hardly much insight for people on the outside looking in. But for people on the inside, I say they would learn a lot. Having equal equipment is the single best way to compare drivers, and gauge ones own performance. Sure they would lose to the 2-3 guys running Subies, but that wouldn't matter in the long run. Focus on driving ability first, and upgrade to a real car when the time is right.

Funny you mention autocross. My personal belief is that autocross is the best place to start to learn racing skills. It's a very low-risk environment, so you can push to the limit and beyond with no consequences except embarrassment. Finding the limit of a car is like finding the bottom of a lake with a fishing line, you have to hit it a few times first. Then you learn to hold it at the sweet spot. That's impossible to (cheaply or safely) learn in rally or even rallyx, where there's trees and rocks threatening you at every turn. Even experienced drivers slow down more than necessary most of the time.
AutoX is also a place to find some great drivers, that just have no time or budget for anything else. So depending on your location, you may be up against some real talent that can teach you a lot.

I was instructing at an autoX school one year. At the end of the day, instructors were taking students out in their own car for some fun runs. One student I took out, as we approached the first turn we went past her comfort zone far enough for her to yell "WHOA!" probably 4 or 5 times before we reached my braking point. By the corner exit she was laughing. Lessons like that are much more difficult in any environment except autoX.

True. NASCAR has the most competition in this country. And even though the skill set NASCAR drivers have is quite different than other forms of motorsports, I still see these drivers do great when they go to international competitions, like the ROC or Dakar etc...

We could have been 1st in B-Spec instead of 8th in OL. A Yaris would be fun but I've got plans for another FWD brewing.

Do autocrossers autocross in the rain?

I think they do unless there is lightning or if big puddles start forming.

Car was spotted in this year's wee Jim Clark rally last weekend. It appears in the results below. It was being driven in a pretty spirited manner.

Gonna hafta know REAL accurately what the diameter of the poke in part is going to need to be---that's just like the Xratties I like so much so the concept isn't new...

Also, have to know what the top mount is like--where the bearing is...

The rear is the first car that i saw with what now is common regarding the use of a flat stamping for the main North/South part, so like the Fuckus and the Volvo S-whatever and many later Honjas you can beef that up by just laying a V of some CrMo tubing and zapping it on..Cheap and easy.

So dimensions dimensions dimensions...

And some "pretty good" idea of real weight, and F-r %

And an idea of the top mount---or the flat area where the top mounts bolts up to so we can think of easy to get alternates.

And you can call later as long as you're semi-coherent.. Me? never not semi-coherent..
