I bet Strusa builds a car. They just dominated in whales with a group N car. Maybe not this year but I bet they do in the near future.

a) I don't think SRTUSA built that car. (Article on WRC.com says JRM built it)
b) http://www.walesrallygb.com/documents/Official_Final_Classification(6).pdf since when is 8th-in-class "dominating"?
(Yes, I get that lumping the N4/R4 cars in with R5/RRC/S2000 is kind of an unfair fight, and he was the fastest of the N4/R4 cars, but only by 5 minutes out of 3.5 hours of stage time)

What are you guys going on about?
Who? What car? RCwhat class..

What is the relevance to waht?

Are you confused? I am but anytime I try and understand people pouring money away for nothing I'm confused.

David Higgins and Craig Drew (I believe you've heard of them?) competed in Wales Rally GB 2015, in a Subaru entered by Subaru of America, in a lovely everybodies-favorite-helicopter-crashing-subaru-driver tribute livery.

Relevance? Not sure. Maybe the notion that, if you try hard enough, you can always find someone who'll view a futile waste of money as some sort of victory?

5 minutes over rally GB is a tick under 1 sec/km (1.6 sec/mile), which is more of a pace gap than can be closed on a typical day. (I've seen a driver push over 1 sec/k on a day, but they didn't start out 'attacking')

The point - if there is one - is that Diggins was able to run 'out of reach' of other drivers in similar equipment at an event with a much stronger overall field than you'd find at any RA event.(or any event in North America for that matter)

Looking at the subject of this thread, it would suggest that VTCar could still be virtually assured a win if RA went to NLO as the 'Championship' class, but that the gap from first to second would be much closer.

Of course these are still $150,000+ cars and $15,000 per event campaigns... which has little to do with the average guy. (Although Seehorn showed that a homebuilt subaru on Bilsteins can run close to the top of the pack cars that are on EXE-TC suspension - which is some seriously nice suspension)

You must spend most of your time confused.
Every dollar I spend on rallying is technically pouring money away for nothing.

I don't pay much attention to international rallying on any level because I'm trying to focus on local rallying, and to a lesser extent, regional rallying.

Subaru sells well over half of their cars in the USA now. They also make record profit margins. Let's do some quick estimating. They sell about 500k of their 800k cars in the USA, their total revenues are around 25 billion on that quantity of cars and they post margins of around 17.5%, so around 4.375 billion in profits. Though technically that is AFTER they pay for all their rallying, which it seems like their biggest effort is in their biggest markets.
No wonder they are giving discounted cars, $5k start bonuses, and big payouts to the SP class.
No wonder there are now SEVEN companies offering budget rally suspension for Subarus. But really, who cares, it's all wasting money.

Keith nailed what I was trying to say. Your correct Strusa didnt build the car they crewed the car. Talking about wasting money on a motorsports forum is kind of pointless! We all spend what our budget allows, Some are just bigger then others. Cool thing with the new class is that the lower budget guy still has a shot at a good finish even against the big money teams. To me this is what makes racing stronger for all involved. Time will tell but so far i like what i see. Now if RA would cahnge the websight to have the new class as an option to choose while entering. That may take a while!

I'm reading it right and it's a national class and not regional?

+1 on pump gas, no restrictor, & h-patterns in the "top" class. i'd be curious to see if that would encourage caged cars from other disciplines to participate.

What if they sell the naming rights to the class, you know to maximize the market and commercial potential of this new class.

John Vanlandingham regional national limited open class. JVRNLOC, for short?

Subaru of America Dealers Association Regional National Limited Open Class. SADARNLOC?

So what was the final answer on engine swaps? It sounds like Open and G5 are allowed but not Group2?

Can I build a Cummins Diesel powered Subaru and enter it in Open? At least for 1 mile until the transmission explodes because of all the torks?

Or can I build a Volvo 240 with a Honda s2000 motor in group 5?

Or everyone favorite the LS1 powered BMW e36 compact with fancy body work?
