Tow vehicle, I wanna know whazz up...

Okay...

I've been living in Uurr-up for a few months now...

I've always had a soft spot for "small diesels", I worked for a while in the UK "back in the day" and came back with an "anti-big truck" mentality. While most of my tree slaying brethren were driving F750's and L8000 chipper/bucket trucks... I went for a 4 cylinder Hino.

Now I'm "here" for a longer period... and all I see is 2.5L and 3.2 L trucks pulling 4 tons down the road... Oh and never mind the Toyota Dyna's with their HIABS and 14" dually's pullin' rocks...

These folks pull 4-5 cars with a front drive/sub 4L "transit van" all day long... over MOUNTAINS, I'm not talking hills of the NA East, or those measly 6% grades of the NA west... Real MOUNTAINS with switch backs like nobody's bizness...

When I get back, I'm buying a GM 3500 van body and puttin' an Isuzu 4bt in it and rocking 40 mpg on my way to Pines... winking smiley

Edit: and never mind the fact I saw a late 90's 9 series volvo wagon pulling a, wait for it, wait, Transit Van! on a 2 axle trailer up the pass from Yverdon to Pontarlier a few weeks ago...

With all due respect, that's like saying I've seen a 10 ton tow truck pulling a 10 ton tow truck... make it a Fiat 500 pullin' a Lambo on a trailer and I'm all ears. winking smiley

its a bit odd to see a sports car trailering a sports, but the fiat would be better

My dad and I were hauling hay from a pasture to our barn with my single cab, short bed 1990 toyota pickup. The last load was over a 1000lbs of hay in the bed, and about 10,000 lbs on the trailer. Truck did fine.

Firstly, let it be known I commute (on completely paved roads) to work everyday in a 6.7L F350... But it doubles as an awesome tow rig and is handy.

Anyway. Why not tow your own spares car to the rally, with your rally car?

I'm excited that Toyota is supposedly bringing a diesel Tacoma to the US. Pretty sure they can count on every veteran to by two

Matt, mon sewer..Same here. I have wet-dreams for a LWD Transit 2.5 turbo intercooled diesel with the nice 6 speed.....No problem revving the piss out of it.. Always wonder why every kid riding moto-cross had to have extended length 'merican van with BIG BLOCK V8 and they could "only" fit 2 bikes and a couple small Craftman tool boxes and 2 jerry cans "no room, mang" when somehow You're-a-peein' guys could cram 4 bikes and LOTS of spares and gear in a SWB 2,3 York powered Transit--and cruise 100 km/hr..

Pas soif aussi.. mais vraiment pas comme ma 404D mais pas mauvais...

But modern 16v disel with a turbo is a match made in heaven..

Not gonna happen. Toyota has stated now numerous time no Duzel engine for the Tacoma in North America.

On the other note the Ford Transit is now available here with the 3.2l I5 diesel thumbs up smiley

more than likely the van was the best they could afford. a van is still better than the swb pickup regular cab they use around here. i favored a 78 country squire wagon still in the crate and a trailer, never lost a night's sleep and got laid a few times too. but a minivan and a trailer works great as well.

Randy Zimmer used to pull his Impreza Rally car with an Impreza on a light trailer. It also meant that he brought his own spares!

I am eager to see the new Colorado diesel when it debuts. It still a truck (almost the same size as the 73-88 Full-size GM's), but its not a huge beast.

Colorados are ridiculous-expensive to maintain, though. They sure as heck aren't side-saddle Chevys.

Already available for sale as a 2016.

Here in the frozen north only available in LT or higher package. Cost is $44K before tax and just over $49K out the door with tax. Too rich for my blood. No manual available at all and the rear end ratio is only a 3.42 thumbs down .

Also this motor has not been that reliable in other markets where it has been available for a while.

The new Mercedes Metric van looks nice and could tow a rally car with ease.

Cummins Frontier will be a cool small truck.

I bought a 91 D250 Cummins single cab long bed with topper. Can fit 4x8 sheet with ease, tows anything I could want and is cheap to insure. Probably gets like 10 MPG towing but again, cheap to own.
