What happened to Rally WV and Rally TN?

What has become of the two events here in the Mid-Atlantic region: Rally West Virginia and Rally Tennessee? Have they been canceled due to lack of interest or lack of help or localities that didn't cooperate?

Doubtless a tale of woe and intrigue.. Its hard.. And its a risky investment of time and money..

I was asked this just a month ago on the FB group. My response:

I organized Rally Tennessee. Rally Tennessee is available for someone else to organize. Roads are still there and still paved. The "official story" is exactly the same as the "actual story" that I gave to all the racers in a discussion on-site after the final awards ceremony:

I announced that it had been lots of fun but my daughter was getting bigger and much more interesting to be around (she was around 3 at the time) and so I didn't want to organize a one day rally (Sandblast) AND organize a two day rally with open multi-pass reccce (Rally Tennessee) AND organize a two day rally sprint (HyperFest) AND organize a two day rally with night stages (Black River Stages). So, one person organizing four rallies... sorry guys family comes first.

So I've organized up to four rallies each year over the last 10 years. I've averaged about 2.5 each year. IF I CAN DO THAT MUCH... WHAT'S STOPPING **YOU** FROM ORGANIZING ***ONE***?

Hey dude, I mean no disrespect. I'm just getting to the point in my life where I can do this sort of thing.

I am quite new to rally stuffs. Right now I'm on the outside looking in and asking "where did the events that are geographically closest to me go?"

The wife and I are discussing volunteering at Sandblast and I'm trying to talk a friend who is equally as intrigued by the sport into going as well.

If all goes as planned, perhaps I will meet you there, Mr. Green.

I got to meet you in '07, I think, when you came out to get Mt Hood RallyMoto off the ground.
I remember being impressed that you came all the way over to help make sure things went to plan, and they did.
I fear that we are approaching a generational shift with a lot of rallys and it's going to take a whole new, younger group to step up to the task and keep things going.
At least here in the PNW most of the organizers were ralliers up til the late 80s or so then have been organizing since. They be gettin old and rightfully so, probably want to get on with other things in life.

Not to say that there aren't young organizers or that Anders is old.

I'm 44 now. So, that's not "old old". It's not young and fresh, either. I started rallying in 1999, I was 29 at the time. I took over Sandblast Rally in 2006, so I was 34 years old then, with "only" five years of rally racing and volunteering experience.

At the time time, there was WAY less in the way of rally organizing tools. No templates, pdfs, sign up systems, online payment systems, web authoring tools, anything. I got a set of stage signs and a stack of maps and some old route books.

So what we know is a 34 year old guy can build an entire rally from the ground up, from practically nothing. Jens did this with Rally Idaho too, and I think he was mid-30s at the time.

And now? It's SOOO much easier now. Things that used to take 3 days I can get done in 90 minutes. The software NRS has built is that powerful.

I'd love to be 34 again, start a new rally, and be handed all the tools I've built over 10 years. That would be friggen awesome.

The lesson should be "Holy crap, ONE 34 year old person can organize a whole rally." Yeah, it was a lot of work, and it's easier with more people helping, but just knowing that it can be done should encourage people.

I have 4 kids, rental properties, and a side Biz.. which is pretty much why I haven't been able to get further into organizing. At least I got rid of the long commute finally. But, being a family man is also a good reason to get outta town on your own every once in a while. Rally volunteering has become my 'hunting camp' or 'tailgating' or 'get the heck outta the house and don't answer the phone for a whole 4 days' getaway.

Now the kids are getting older and things are settling down, I'm just about ready for my 'rookie year' as a competitor after riding in course vehicles for several years on my local events . Then maybe I'll organize something, and the wife and kids will be enlisted to rally slavery as volunteers.
