Congrats to Mike Hooper and Claudia Pullen for their wins at Sno and Drift. Calculated against the big boys, they were 4 minutes ahead of their next 2wd competitors, and beat a bunch of fancy schmantzy equipment with their crusty old E30.

"Talk about drugs. Driving a car like that, going that fast, it’s like all the drugs at once." - Tommy Byrne

"Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. You moved to Grindelwald to drive the cog train to Murren. Can you repeat that?" - The Brain

Thanks Wilson! It was a good event. Got stuck on second run through practice... Lucky because that taught us a valuable lesson!

Should have some vids up on ruver city rally Facebook here shortly... I think they will be good as we took it super slow on tight stuff.. And made time up on flat over crests.... Pretty sure we were over 100 on some of em.

Nice work! Really highlights how keeping it clean AND fast is what wins SnoDrift. Consistently 4-5th on each stage but kept it clean for win! Spectacular work and congratulations!

That's how awesome he was (is.) He handicapped himself with an underpowered (but well geared) fail wheel drive car just so everyone else could think they had a chance against him. Poor bastids never knew what hit them.

Thanks everybody! The tortoise and the hair thing was quite apparent... We REALLY backed up on the slow stuff to avoid getting hung...

To be fair Steely was on another level.... His times were really impressive, as were Millens and Micah/Tyler's on stage one. Excited to see what Claudia and I can do at stpr... We are learning a bunch every event:-)

Yeah I did..And a year before I enter first event for real I had a very nice fully factory rebuilt close ratio box with a 5,83:1 final drive and a fresh all steel 4 pinion LSD...and soon had spares..
The VERY exact thing that is now so cripplingly expensive for all FWD cars---if there anything even made for whatever thing some guy gets a bright idea to build..
That box cost USD345 and $370 to airfreieght in..Still have it, (several ring and pinions later), LSD still works fine- (been shimmed a couple of times)
So I had THE big problem solved..one that would cost $3000-6500 for asy cars....or for the way bad FWD Fiestas just the gear stick and mount is $1800....brand new T5 trans is under that for a completely new gearbox.

And remember, my own business was niche specialist on those particular model V4 powered Saabs.
The rally car was a demo car...And thus every penny of rally parts, frieght, gas, licences, the huge $75 or $85 entry fees/day, machine shop work, eventually the van and its tires, gas, trans, motor, insurance, 90% of the phone bill were ALL Business expenses and deducted under ADVERTISEMENT.
Thus reducing taxable income and helping lower tax liability...

But I did not even then push 96s as an idea for others very vigorously...
Those days I pushed Opels:
Manta and Ascona A chassi....and helped of course anybody regardless of it was a Datsun or a Toyota or Colt or Capri or a GHL...even tried to help the one Volvo loon at the time.....except he was in his own fantasy world and beyond help..( In early 90s when Volvo was dethroning Ascona B as THE car I ran into him at a shop and had a nice current issue of the weekly paper FULL of results...He insisted "Nobody runs 240s...Every runs 140s..That's because the double a arm suspension" I tried to get him to look at the current 1 week old newspaper where the results for rally after rally in A, B, or C class were Ascona, 240, 240 Ascona, Ascona, 240 240, Escort, 240...page after page..only now and then were the in C class a rare 140.. Literally poked fingers in ears "I can't look , not time to look LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA !" And ran away..

Too bad the guys on the counter were both good friends who saw the whole thing and sorta said, Hey currrent issue, let's look at results and aloud "Whoa cool lookie: Ascona 240 240 Ascona 240 240..."

Hilarious...

Thanks John

We weren't sure if the car would run with the new ECU about 30 minutes before Parc Expose so we're pretty happy with it.

There were three stages Gravel Pit x2 and the Ranch where I just parked it in 3rd at about 2k. About 2/3s through second day the trans started chirping in 1,2 an 3 and Reverse was shot.

9-10 events on that trans isn't bad???

Actually considering you guys have been going pretty good 9-10 events with one of those boxes is a miracle!

Whaddya gonna do now?

Time to move up to 2wd???smoking smiley
