And what a glorious spec tire! The reason that competitors won't gain much from modified engines or manual transmissions will be the spec tire of the series: the Douglas Xtra Trac 2 all-season radial, available in great quantity at any of 4,900+ Walmart stores across the country. This skinny, long-wearing tire, with a tread compound as hard as the finest old-growth mahogany, will ensure that each Spec Land Yacht competitor will present a spectacle of iffy traction and exciting squealing noises. Imagine the glorious sight of a trio of Lincoln Continental Mark VIs going three-wide into a corner, Xtra Tracs shrieking! Here's a spec rally tire I'd think would even the competition. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nexen-Win-Spike-Tire-185-65R15/43079408 |

Eric Wages you have no clue who I am and what my goals in any thing is. We met i think once at West Virginia. We had less then a 2 min conversation then about nothing important. My thoughts on what rally needs has grown from then after being in the sport for a few years.
You guys think im thinking about myself here. In some ways i am but not in the form you guys believe.Im thinking more my demographic in general in all classes. My demographic i believe is over 80% of the field. Saying build a 2wd is so far off in left field it just proves how wrong you are in reading my thoughts of the direction of rally. Like I said before i will keep working on my race program and do the events i like. You guys should be glad i dont own a rally series because you all would be bitching at me over a spec tire in all classes with even a limit on new tires per event! To beat a dead horse In my opinion backed by over 20 years in other forms of racing shows that my thoughts and out line for car prep and rules build competition across the board in all classes at all levels and bring cost to race down for every one from entry level to even the top teams. I feel like a politician battling on the other side! No wonder nothing gets done in rally! Approximately 28/69 entries at 100AW are in 2WD so it's not "people that must race AWD cars." Though I am surprised it is that high. I see a few French looking names, an Indian looking one, a handful of Polish sounding ones so I'm guessing we aren't basing it on nationality or heritage. 80% would be low for percentage of "white" people so we can count that out also. My guess would be that 80% are middle-upper middle class gainfully employed or self employed successful decent income enthusiasts that want to build the best car they can within a rule set that ideally doesn't leave the spending open to the moon. The other 20% are a mix of extremely rich can afford whatever and not necessarily income based but are just out to have fun at lowest cost possible and just want to build something and go rallying and aren't super concerned with competition. So to summarize, the 80% can afford to build a decent and competitive car and want to go out and compete against similarly prepped vehicles. With 17 entries in Open Light I have a feeling we are going to see the spending in that class start to skyrocket with more built strung out engines, fancy gearboxes, higher end dampers and extreme spending efforts towards weight reduction. With two entries already now putting in sequential transmissions. It was just a matter of time. |

And not a word about actually improving their driving.. but then again, why would anybody think of that? Every male thinks he better than average at 2 things.. the other one is driving.. Yup, throwing away money on 'good' final drives, proper gear ratios, and other things mechanical instead of investing in the driver... the part that makes the biggest difference when developed properly. But the ONLY way to improve driving is to spend five large at Tim O'Neil!!!11!!!one!!! Then you can't afford the Prodrive valve stem caps. Andrew Steere Lyndeborough, NH KB1PJY |

Not trolling huh.?. Context, Morison..Response was about a specific observation from a specific person about specific cars in a tailor made class..Context.. That clearer? Does anyone here even run in the 2wd nationals? I feel as though we tend to be pretty regional. Thus this whole thing doesn't really matter.

I did when I was out East, not from some ego stroking reasons but because the towing distances were 3-9 times what I did out here and at the time all the National organisers completely coincidentally all said in virtually the exact same words "Well you see, the average Divisional car isn't as well prepped as the Pros car and the average Divisional drive doesn't want to drive the whole distance so we drop a few stages and they're happier".....And as "Nationals" had already been drastically shortened down to around 2 hours driving time for the winner, I wanted ---like every other Divisional/Clubbie who is even half serious instinctively wants---more miles.. The main thing Alex is the ol' foot in the door to incremental FUBAR scenarios.. If the disig ones can for a simple $1000 kickback mandate that some people are compelled to buy something for a jacked up price, then they can force anybody to buy anything they want by a simple stroke of the pen...or you're a priori excluded.. And that sucks. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |
