Well, I went, as a volunteer, to the rallye Portneuf last saturday and it was depressing.
First is the name of the organisation: Challenge Extreme Elite... COME ON! Also, they substantially raised the price of inscription (850$ CAD for early entry and 1050$ after) They had 8 entries, including one dirtbike and 2 (puke in my mouth) side by sides. 5 cars in 3 different categories. 2 DNF. Rallye Portneuf results No sure what to think about that. Ask for work. If they don't give you work, ask for bread. If they do not give you work or bread, then take bread. - Emma Goldman |

Very very Elite, especially as some of the "sponsored" drivers have been informed that if they compete in any other Canadian rally event their sponsorship will be withdrawn. Also the bike is the owner of the Panta/Gulf series sponsor. Seems like a good, if expensive, way to be a "National" Champion. Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |

I'm curious about how anyone rationalizes calling the EXE a 'National' championship. As an albertan, I understand the difficulties you can encounter when trying to understand the concept of nation... or culture. I worked in your country this summer (Grande Prairie).

Who was that directed at? Power means nothing if you cannot control it! |
Does it matter? Just some frenchie getting his panties in a knot that Quebec is just another province of Canada, and nobody else cares about the matter But yes, what an extreme challenge. So extreme, the headlining entry (Joel Levac in his WRC mini) didn't even bother to show up. But its extreme! And getting so much exposure! Well, probably so much exposure for how empty Tremblay's pockets are going to be after all of this. Good riddance to good rubbish. Unless NASA is giving him a sweetheart deal and this can continue to flounder on, I have no idea how a series can survive on 5 car fields without someone losing serious coin. |

It says so right here in their Regulations, Art 1 Introduction, paragraph 2. and I quote; "Effective since August 14th, 2016, the Challenge Xtreme Elite, the Canadian national championship sanction by NASA rallysport" Yes, it's a Ranger. Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany. |

That seems a bit uncalled for. I know your provincial government sits in the National Assembly and that Quebeckers pride themselves in being a 'distinct society' within Canada. But notwithstanding that, Quebec is still a province within Canada. More to the point the CXE GCRs state:
Which they have translated as:
Now, we're talking about a championship where the furthest distance between events us under 500km, or less than half the span of the province of Quebec. We also saw one of the sponsors/competitors talking about competing in a 'National Championship' again, and his last championship he competed in was the Canadian Rally Championship. For me, the CXE doesn't really pass the sniff test of being a National Championship... but it does raise the question of what it takes to be considered a 'National' championship. • The CXE seems to be hanging its hat on stage length, >200km of stage per event, but last I looked the BRC event lengths, looking at a well established national championship, were well below that. • Can a National Championship be physically compact and restricted to a small region of the country, as long as it draws competitors from across the country? I'd say there IS an argument for that, and perhaps that is the vision behind the CXE. • Does a National Championship need to include events from across the country? The CRC is reasonably inclusive, but there are many other series that call themselves 'national championships' that are strictly eastern based. Does a National Championship have to be a towing championship? No matter the answer, I'm hard pressed to see a championship that happens along a 500km corridor in Canada, with only local entrants, as being a National Championship. But, I'd love to hear a rationalization for it. I suppose Baseball has the World Series that is anything but, there is the Miss Universe pagent, with stricty Terran contestants... Perhaps Inter Galactic Rally Championship seemed like too much of a reach. Not everyone (matt) agrees with me, but I've always though that caged opening cars are neither needed nor a good idea. Not that I care to participate in the argument, that was an existing stage car with new paint and new motor and new fancy trans. I have no real clue but I'd assume the opportunity for testing as a 0 car would be a big bonus. |
