When was the last time nobody finished?

Ok, so lots of side by sides, motorcycles and quads(?) finished Rallye Saguenay this past weekend, but not a single car that started NASA RallySport's Quebec Regional championship - Elite Challenge Extreme finished the event.

I can't think of a time before when that has happened...

So that's a 59% DNF rate. I seem to recall PFR a few years ago being over 60%. It was the last year that Comstock-Kane was run... I think.

From the perspective of those of you with stage rally experience; would this be a situation where the rally was designed to be too difficult, or that the preparation level of the cars was inadequate?

It's in the title of the series Keith, I'm surprised you missed it.

Nobody was Elite enough...

Can't tell from the posted DNF reports. Would have to see some stage video, hear from the teams, and perhaps inspect the cars.

look at your question...same mistaken assumptions in your endless fappening with a stupid Golf for driving on flat field..Prep level... Or imagination the conditions might have been 'designed to be too difficult'..
Left out of the thinking and question is the role of the person driving...

The roads were just roads..Nothing special. Gravel roads that locals drive on in street cars..
The prep level is same average prep as any other random collection of cars...

Cars don''t crash and DNF or break and DNF by themselves..They just sit there.

PEOPLE drive the cars, and people cause things to DNF..or not..

People are central and people's thoughts are the decisive thing..

What I wonder is what is the point of this so called series with 6 car entries, or 8 or whatever?

Its a fiasco. A disastre.
6 cars is not a rally.

6 cars is not a rally.

How many cars does it take for it to be a rally?
How many competitors does it take? (a lone driver in a SxS was leading the event when the final car DNFd.

The event had 21 starters including the other types of entries, which is still below the number of CARS entered in that region a decade ago. That is what is unfortunate... a decline that doesn't seem to be being addressed.

My first event in Alberta started 6 cars... but the sport here has grown significantly. In fact, Rallye Baie des Chaleurs in ~10 days will see 9 teams from Western Canada (10 if you want to include the Squamish based SRTC) making the trip east. We're actually at a point where the national calendar will cause noticable conflicts for the regional events... where once Quebec was seen as 'the Hot Bed of rally, the west seems to be in a stronger position today....

Thanks. I knew you'd appreciate me being closer. smiling smiley

Wasn't it Quebec that went the route of 2WD for their regional championship like ten years ago too?

I wonder how cost of living and gentrification/cityfied effect has had on that aspect. I was congratulating a local new Subaru driver in Denver, "you have now done something that only about 30 other people out of the 15000 Subaru enthusiasts/drivers in Colorado say they wish they could do, built and competed in a Subaru rally car."

Yup.

I'll be up around Halloween. If car isn't ready, I'll volunteer at least!

Do you think that change alienated new people? Is it just this series that is hurting or is it the whole region?

Ha, that driver neither lives in the city nor is gentrified. Freakin mountain person from what I hear smiling smiley. I get the point though.

To JVL's point about the rally. The 1st one wasn't smooth for us. At TC on the 4th stage, the clutch went to the floor and the car stalled. It took a few minutes of thinking to remember that I had pulled the interlock stuff from the car for this sort of issue, and it would happily start in 1st gear and move. We spent the rest of that day being careful and running without a clutch. This was just 120k mile car that I'd missed one maint item on out of the many that had been gone over. One dead clutch line.

The 2nd day of the rally, 1/2 way though.. my poor suspension vendor choice reared its head and we got to run the rest of the day without any fluid in the front dampers. At this point, it was take care of the car time on the 2 'ATV' trails at idaho. We slowed down, we got the car through, and finished.
