'93 Escort RS Cosworth Hitting the stages in 2018
October 08, 2017 09:27PM
Yup... Ken Block will be hitting a few events 'around the world' with a period correct GrpA Escort RS Cosworth.

Should be fun to see... I hear they might be looking for a tech with experience with these...

Quote

PARK CITY, UT: Ken Block is pleased to announce an all-new (to him) racecar to his arsenal of racecars at Hoonigan Racing Division: a 1991 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Group A rally car—complete with an upgraded WRC engine package!
Block recently took delivery of his new racecar and immediately got to breaking it in with a bit of tire smoke during a quick test and was extremely pleased with the results. His plan is to race this Escort RS Cosworth on a few gravel stage rallies around the world next year, along with occasionally piloting a Ford Fiesta R5 also. In addition to these plans, Block and Hoonigan plan to bring Gymkhana GRID back to America for a few events, along with continuing to work with Monster Energy to put on GRID events in Europe.
“While just yesterday we announced that myself and my team were done racing in World RX after this season, we also mentioned that I was intending on heading back out into the woods to do some stage rallies in 2018. This car here [Block’s new Escort] is one of the vehicles I plan on racing on gravel stage rallies and I’m very excited about it. I’ve always loved these cars and my team director, Derek Dauncey, finally found one for me that fit the exact specifications of what I was looking for. I'm stoked about it and I'm really looking forward to racing this beast!"
Block's 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth is a properly sorted—and clean—example of a 90s era Ford World Rally Championship racecar. The car features an upgraded 1997 WRC engine (turbocharged 2.0-liter producing 400 hp and 405 lb/ft in current trim, lightweight alloy block vs. the original steel block, head and block have been modified to run higher horsepower) mated to a 7-speed sequential gearbox, features a side-exit exhaust (for tarmac setups) and comes with options for both gravel and tarmac suspension setups.
Block’s race schedule for next year will be announced in early 2018.

Does this mean it will be wrecked by turn 11 of stage 2...

I'm excited to see it. Really, development wise, its easily a car capable of finishing on the overall podium in north america. He won't be beating SRTUSA anytime soon though.

All assuming it doesn't break. Notoriously tempermental cars. It's funny, he could drop $50k-$100k into it and have a modern drivetrain that would solve all that car's issues.

Also, there must be some ford help. Why not have just bought an older wrc focus?

Active differentials everywhere!
That is a competitive advantage. That's why they aren't legal in WRC anymore.
Car IS legal for competition in USA as it has a homologated roll cage. Well, maybe not NASA since they have their own special interpretations of rules it seems at times.

How silly would it be if he and Fetela fought to the last stage for the 2018 RA Championship?

That's no fault of the car.

Tell us about all the temperamental issue you've had with your modded YB Cosworths..
If they are that temperamental then you must remember well enough.
Which ECU did you use? And chip came from who?

Weird.

Mike Whitman's been running one for almost fifteen years, and people just barely notice.

Ken Block buys one and OMIGOD IT'S THE MOST AWSOMEST THING EVAH!

I still cream my pants when Whitman beings his car out.
Block will probably win with this. If it's of Higgins/Pastrana pace I'm sure they'll sort it out. Nobody else competing in US is there yet. If Ramana pulls off his 2002 Prodrive car plan he probably has the pace.

John, I am sure that every Escos Adam had experience with has been tempermental. I mean just look at all those WRC failures in these cars.
I'm curious about the 1993 statement. It looks to me to be in later WRC specification not early 90s Group A. Might have to dig out my old Group A and WRC manuals.

Well I guess he's compiling a event by event litany of all the temperamental issues he's had..Must be a long list since he's absent....
Funny how the last WRC event that Block did which was WRC Sweden they ran a concurrent SM --Swedish Championship event after..Poor old Mats Jonsson was there in his at that point 17 year old Escort that he'd bought from Stig Blomqvist...Group A spec, 34mm restrictor and all..

Block with the best car his millions can buy a full spec current Fuckus or whatever was doing his typical 2 or so minutes behind the leaders per SS and a steady 12th-13th>
Jonsson's times on shitty rutted to fuck roads would have had him in 4th to 6th.....

Clearly there's no reason this thing couldn't win here and now by a nice margin overall except one..driver ability.

Because both of you have worked on so many of them as well?

Otherwise, you're just jerking each other off, not that that is surprising or anything. I'm reiterating what I saw over the WRC review videos, that's it. Oh, and the interviews and results of a couple that ran in North America.

But obviously you two know better.

Then you should have phrased it something like "I've heard they're notoriously tempermental cars." Everyone's irritated because you wrote in an authoritative tone and everyone knows you're no authority. Using your own words, you're just jerking off.

Yeah you ignorant slut, I have.. more than 20 years ownership, fuck-tard. And deeply involved with them since 1989 when I was interviewed and offered job at Fordmotorsport in Boreham. I currently have 3 of the engines all which I rebuilt, and have built 6-7 more..

It didn't occur to you that the couple that ran in North America were run by guys with virtually zero experience with the cars and who thought they did know everything.

So you admit that your total experience with these car is watching videos and spitting up what you watched..

And you still wonder why people consider you a fucking blow hard know-nothing punk.

The thing I wonder is how you are allowed to even wipe your own ass by your self...

Adam Vokes you are a pitiful excuse for a human...
