Hey Greg,

Did you know that my old co-driver Eric "T" Tremblay is now president of Rally Sport Quebec, and two (or is it three?) years ago, to much complaint, made the regional championship a two-wheel drive only championship?

It`s still running like that... so there exists the opportunity to examine a working model...

andrew

I'd be very interested to hear more about how this has played out over the last few years since it was introduced. Have lots of people moved to 2wd? What has been the effect on the "show" for spectators?

I know Quebec has a very strong rally scene.

Tell me more!!

Before the 2wd-only policy, events usually attracted between 30 and 40 cars. Now the regionals are lucky to draw 20 entries. The television shows are virtually unwatchable, and a lot of people have either switched to the National series or have left the sport entirely.

It's debateable whether these effects are the result of the new policy or the manner in which it was implemented. The Quebec rally scene has been heavily divided since the 4wd cars were excluded from the championship (they can enter but can't score points).

So AWD cars place overall, but dont' score any regional points.

I would imagine a sudden switch like that would cause drops and grief for quite a while. Why are the TV shows unwatchable? 2wd cars are generally more exciting to watch.

I like watching 2WD cars in person. On TV they can be quite boring.
Editing the hill climb footage I always had to do the 2WD cars first, or else I wouldn't do them afterward because it was boring after doing the AWD. Then again, we don't have restrictors and had some amazingly sweet AWD cars. Like Mike Whitman's Escort Cosworth, Brant Ford's GVR4, and Brian Moody's Audi in AWD.

Last I heard he asked me to put a 2wd Cossie motor together to make it a recce/play car.
Just waiting on exhaust valves and some valve locks and I can start.

I wonder if he remembers?

Grant, you DO know I have things to make a nice normal aspirated YB, dontcha?
