Derek's right foot stomps the gas down pretty good, but once he does the engine AND the gearbox doesn't let him down.
And when he hits the brakes, something happens.

A good total package, too bad it got sorta ugly.

You could get a big cinderblock and attach it to your foot with a few turns of Race Quality Ductanium, that would solve one problem! 8)

After an overnight dialup download, I finally get to see this video, and I'm wondering was my car that boring to watch, cuz it doesn't hardly make an appearance...till the final closing scene, oh boy! Is it from when we won crane creek? Or the sub-7-min. Brooklyn run? Noooooooo. It's our shining achievement, the crowning moment on our 47 minute park-n-rest on blue slough! Yes! Watch the high performance coast! Admire the display of car control skills as the driver pauses.. for dramatic effect... in the chicane! Feel the thunderous and totally futile ground-pounding chatter of the starter motor! Watch the air turn blue, not from oil smoke, but from the curses from driver and codriver (prolly a good thing the windows were closed right about then)! Yes, it's moments like these that really draw in the fans of rallysport everywhere.

But if anyone out there has video of ugly car 315 when it was, like, you know, running, I'd sure like to have a copy...

Nahhhh. When I got to the end of that vid I laughed my ass off. It's in a treasured archive now. If ever my ego gets too big, I can always watch this and pffffft-- deflation. At the same time, it's a way cool video, and the artiste should be encouraged!

Jay the trouble with them four wheel drive things is that driven well they tend to not be exciting to watch until you are at WRC speeds.

What happened to you on Cane Creek II? I'm only a eight seconds slower than you in a 100hp Production-class Golf, and Shadd smoked you in a RWD car. Were you having mechanical problems? That was before you rolled the first time, IIRC.

I did roll on Crane Creek II. So I rolled the car took a few moments to gather my thoughts, ask the co driver if he was OK start the car drive easy to find out if all the bits still worked like brakes etc and I had a big missfire all day so I had no power could not go over 50 MPH down hill on the stage and still set and OK time. Note that I was 4th fastest on Crane 1 with the huge misfire that we later found out to be a pluged fuel filter. The roll was a result of the misfire, got a little too sideways and no motor (it died) to stop the slide and pull us around in the turn.

I crashed the car later in the day when the rear beam colapsed and caused less than stellar handeling in a fast right turn.

All and all not so good rally for me. No Power, a roll, no power and then a crash.

Derek I offer my apologies for not finding the cause of the lack of power until after you bent it up.....
Sure went like hell once we fixed that though......

It is a two ways street John, the driver should be able to descrip the problem in a way to find the problme. Also as the guy who preped the car I even thought it might be time to change that filter out but did not...

It is interesting how little fuel we use on the street vs on the stage. On transit even when trying to find if the issue was still there, no problem cause I can not hold down the power for as long.
