Does the rebuild cost include a happy ending? From Angelina Jolie?

I especially like the part (in this forum somewhere) where mitch catches shit from mark moore and in the process admits DMS could not sustain itself on sales alone so they make it up in absolutly ridiculous service costs. Crooks for sure. I'm glad I ditched my set when it was time for a biannual $4000 (cdn) rebuild. Makes them kinda disposable don't ya think.

I'm glad that I didn't buy DMS when they were $2800 and basic service could be done by the owner. Because now I would have to bend over and pay 50% of the original purchase price for some allegedly trained guy to slap in a seal and overbill me for his labor. Lame

You don't have to pay someone to do it. You can just buy the rebuild kit for $200. Exorbinant price? Let's see, each shock costs $1100. So, 18% of the original cost for a rebuild kit if you do it yourself. So John's stuff cost me $500 per shock (with shipping costs). Rebuild cost of $65 for Bilstein stuff last I checked. That's 13%. And, don't forget, that many people don't want to wait 5 weeks for custom stuff and have to modify things to make it fit. They want to pay money and have someone do it for them. DMS is a fine product for them.

Lastly, $60/hr. in labor is too high for you huh? Seems extremely fair to me, but I have experience in automotive service and understand what it typically costs for specialized service.

So a bushing, seal, and sticker is $200? How many hours does it take to replace those?

Man, I'm in the wrong business.

I had to modify my DMS to make it fit. On both cars I bought it for.

The labor rate is no big deal, hell that is cheap. The kit is way too much but that is no big deal I would just go down the street and have bit made at the local shop next time.

What is the $4000 bi anual? I am on year 4 never heard of that.

In the long run reality always wins.

Colin,
The bushings replacement could be a fairly big headache.
Mine are pressed in on a hydraulic press with a good deal of pressure.
I have to position them using a stepped tool, and it takes some pumping and groaning to get them in.
THEN they get machined to size.

Getting them out will be a fun job, I'll probabbly have to chuck them up and turn them out. At least JVAB bushes cost only about $6 each for the two, the seal is now $8.50.

The actual work takes time, but with a decent grease the bushings should last on any of the modern things for several seasons: WE DON'T DO that many MILES per year do we?

You CAN do the re-grease youself, use MOLY-EP
