This guy's a little miffed about French quality control as well.

Uh-oh.
I never lost two wheels at once.....
Broke all five wheel studs at a time a few times with big power....
Broke a spindle......Few things compare with having the handling get.... exciting and seeing the right front tire pass the car with caliper, rotor and such all as a unit....

haha, it's funny cause citroen gets a shit load of their cars built in spain where this rally seems to be in.

and second, about peugeot in the uk, well, that's just a national war against the car company. my family has a 307sw (station wagon) with a 110hp 2.0hdi with somewhere around 35000km on it. it's 2 years old. not a single problem. not a flat. not a sqweak. and this car is a work horse to my dad. he doesnt care about cars as long as it starts when he wants it to, he's ok. never washes it nor get the oil changed (i do that for him). this summer it was used for taking loads of boxes and furniture back and forth as we were moving the content of a house. not a single problem.

so where does this peugeot uk problem come from? the brits. they're just jalous that there is no british car companies anymore. mg was sinking at the same time that PSA was rising. even citroen manages to sell cars by the boatload these days. over the past 3-4 years there have been constant attacks by the british media to showcase peugeot in a bad light. but why is it that brits are still buying them on that shitty island?

in my final thoughts about this issue; i want to point out that psa is strong both in italia and espana even though both of these countries make cars. psa is less strong in deutchland but not booed neither. actually they enjoy a better brand image than opel. the brits are just too damn proud and too anti-european to be taken seriously. that's all i'm going to say. now i've got a cup of tea brewing....

Brits are still stuck in the Ford/Vauxhall mode (like the US Ford/Chevy thing) - they are both considered British brands by most so there will be some national pride or such crap in buying one. And there is a good deal of anti-Europe sentiment like you said - "it's French, therefore crap"

Haven't really taken a good look at a Ford or Vauxhall recently but the last time I did they were buckets of shit - the Vauxhalls more so than the Fords. My Dad had a mid 80's Escort, my Aunt, Fiesta's, my brothers had Vauxhall Cavalier and Ford Orion (Escort sedan), and they were ALL shite! My stepdad had a Sierra Sapphire that was nice - unfortunately not a Cosworth though. I had late 70's Fiesta that were crap although they got seriously thrashed.

Not til I bought my first Audi did any of my parents really rave about much else - now my Dad has 2 of em, and my Mum and stepdad both have Audi Diesels.
Props to my stepdad though - we did have huge Peugoet 504 station wagons and a Citroen CX wagon in the 80's that were pretty decent.

My Dad is a mechanic and is usually of the JVL opinion that most cars are POS, although he has said the Peugeot diesel motors are good, and he bought a Peugeot 106 for my aunt.

Sounds like you have a wise dad.
I did about 2.7 million miles in s pair of Peugoet 404 diesels in 1976 and 77.
Love the XUD 1.7 motor. Drank less than my friends 220D Mercedes, cost less than Mercedes, lasted way long woth appaling serive, and never aye a cam like they always do.
The Pug 205 GpB motor was based on the XUD bottom end

I was being the fool once leaving at International in Switzerland and try to avaoid getting stuck behind a line of big fawkin Mercedes Box vans (cause I wanted to not be stuck for miles behind them on the narrow road leading away, wanted to back in France before too late) and so I was bombing thru the now empty pits, which were fairly deep mud and saw a friend stuck in the line so I flashed the lights and horn and was flipping him off as I just got it into third, when i turned to see I was headeing toward a deep ditch 90 degrees to my path at maybe 30mph.
Too late to slow, nowhere to turn, not with a triler and bike hooked on. so whaddya do?
Full gas!!!!
Poor ol Pug hit the other side of the ditch HARD, mud and water over the nose, car boiunced a couple of feet in the air, and after a downshift to second, scooted ahead!
Cut off like 1/4 mile of traffic. drove fine.
Goddam tank!!!
Friend verified the jump, concluded I was crazy.

What's new, eh?
