I got a 150mm Blue Point set for $20 when they were mis-priced on their website (regular $55). Exactly the same as the cheap $15 set they sell at Princess Auto/Harbor Freight near as I can tell...

The Caliper you buy should be rated to match the accuracy you need. Don't buy anything unrated. (That said, even an unrated caliper can give you ballpark readings, or pretty accurate comparisons. It's the actual "measurement" that may be in question.)

You'll also need to check calibration fairly often to be confident your readings are correct and constant over time. Either get a shop to do it for you, or buy some calibrations blocks (or sticks) and check it yourself.... frequently. Periodic adjustment may be needed.

I don't know... the last three cheapies I bought lasted max 6 months each in a dirty shop environment. If you find something that's reasonable and has proven itself to last longer than that let me know too!

Make sure that they have some level of water resistance. I had a pair that you could not use with wet hands or the readings went to crap.

I've always used Mitutoyo or Starrett. Both are excellent. And the Starrett is made in a town with a funny name.
