I've heard nothing but good things about it. Never really got around to subscribing, though. I get most of my news and reading from forums like this.

It's a pretty good magazine, but lately it seems to be still grassroots, but more like richly fertilized grassroots rather than wild-grown grassroots.

They had an offer a little while ago though, 100 bucks for a 10-year subscription. 10 bucks a year for a mag that has some pretty good tech articles and stuff in it is a darned good deal.

I've been a subscriber for about 10 years. It's the best car mag going. I wish I'd have known that their Impreza rally car project was for sale. I'd have jumped on it for only $7K!

Hey Mike, when is your next Euro-style Rallycross? Looks like it was a pretty cool event, even though Randy Zimmer was bitching about his car damage.

Do you have any intent in getting into a rally car? If so, I may have a lead for you on a sweet Grp. A Volvo with a significant rally history in New York State for about $5K.

Regards,

Wilson von Kessler

1983 GrpA 242 Turbo. Car hasn't been run since 1992-ish but would make a very good Grp5 car. It used to be Wayne Baldwin's car (he's the Volvo NA parts manager, or was when he built the car). It has 35 events on it, will need new belts, seats, etc. Has the aluminum hood. Think he's got the Getrag 5-spd for it, he usually ran 4.88 gears in the rear end. It has a fuel cell, water injection. It's set up with a stock turbocharger but the owner has the big one for it. It has the European Cibie headlights (glass versions of the plastic US-spec headlights), Euro front turn signals, all-aluminum intercooler, oil cooler, and comes with a pile of spares. Owner claims 250hp.

I misspoke about asking price second hand. Last time it was up about 2 years ago its asking price was $6500, but its just sitting there, so may be acquirable for less.

Awesome deal in my book to be driving a piece of history, and fun to boot. If we hadn't just got the Colt, I would have gone after this one.

I didn't realize that the 240 is almost as well developed as the Escort until I started surfing scandahoovian sites. You can get anything for them.

Thats fucking awesome! Why does it have to be on the east coast though. I'm making really slow progress on my car, and I just want to go fucking drive. Even my street car isn't running now.

I remember the car running. I think Volvo imported 500 GpA cars to the US with about 50 of them having the comp kit in the trunk, then about 35 of them returned to Europe to race... Hmmm.

OK who owns it now, how does one reach them, can we get more info like:

What brakes does it have?
What Steering does it have?
Does it have the scary Aluminum Bolt In Cage by Mahter per the GpA Papers?
Lots more details would be liked.

From what I understand Volvo hardly made any real GRP A 240s. They had a few outfitted and the rest to get to 500 with the parts in the trunk for FIA inspection. But they never sold them through the dealerships and eventually got called on it.

That's if I remember correctly.

There are lots of people who think they have a Grp A 242, but it's really just a stock 240 turbo.

Edited to be clear: I guess I should point out that I am not disputing that this particular car is infact a GpA 240.. just that there was catagorically not 500 of them.
