I was in car #70 and dnf'ed in transit to first stage. Some local hood rat was tailgating me , when I missed a turn and went to turn into a drive way blam! Hit in the ass by a hyundai....So I did the most sensible thing I could think of , leave the scene and haul ass to the first stage . I got about a mile from stage and was stopped and told I had to go back to down town chesterfield. Ended up chick lied to the cops and said I hit her so they let me go but I got dnf and missed the first two stages...!!! came back and ran ss3-7 and finished the rally......Crock of shit!

Serious bummer about the accident... I swear, if I ever get hit by someone on their phone or texting, I'm gonna sue them for negligence on top of everything else. Don't drive drunk. Don't drive impaired. Don't drive on your damn phone or texting. Or please, just don't drive.

Damn.. Mental note to add rear facing camera a little higher on the list.

Sorry about the bad luck.

But by the time I got back I had calmed down to just pissed that I was getting screwed out of the rally by dnfing before I got to the first stage. O well , at least I finished the bitch and drove the talon onto the trailer !

That's about the least sensible thing to do and leave the scene of an accident without OK from the police. But situational awareness would have helped to avoid your accident as well. If you see someone taling you, just ease off gas and pull over and let the person pass you. And if you miss a turn and stop enough that a person tailing you hits you when you brake, you were probably braking to hard as well. With them being on a cell phone is irrelevant at that point.

There's no reason to be "hauling ass" to check in. That kind of stuff gets rally events canceled when locals see the race cars driving fast on transits.

In my opinion, learn from the DNF. It could have been easily avoided by letting a tailgater pass. I've let plenty of aggressive locals pass me on a transit so I don't get in a scuffle with them.

here are a few short vids . The first one is on ss6 , the cars now running on 11.4 volts and having a hard time revving past 3/4 throttle. Second video is ss3 before the alt started crapping out . You can hear the difference in the way it revs!

Agree with Billy 110% on all points..

I've had to slow way down to turn off because of tailgaters..many of which are trying to get a better look at the car (foolishly).

In most areas leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in its self, you're lucky if you got away with that.

Yes. We lost 1:44 to it on stage two due to an a-arm working loose. Otherwise we would have taken the win. Oh well, that is rally. Congrats to Reilly.

The Cossie is one of Carl Merrill's old ones - in fact, the one that he was driving on the fateful day - maintained for a long time by Weejee Smith.

I love it of how something that (IMO) is really wicked cool, that being that an Escort Cosworth even finished an event, let alone WON it, and there is virtually no information anywhere about it, no pictures, no videos, etc.
