And further, I really don't like when people call what isn't an "attack" an attack....THAT is in and of itself is a kind of attack.

Yeah I think a wagon is stupid. No cute, not clever, its cliched in the Volvo world and stupid there as well. Imitative.
There was a time way back in which a whole bunch of us all had wagon versions of what were were actively running in the woods: saab 96 for me, a couple of Opel wagons , 510 wagons etc and we all thought it would be funny to go out on one of our playdays in nothing but wagons, but it was silly then....
These days with all the costs associated with weld in cages, and suspension, it would SEEM like it might be smart to make a car that was, should the plan peter out, not a "novelty car", something that had some potential value....

And if there's any broader thoughts about showing how relatively easy and relatively good a simple, but basically "right " car can work, it sure seems like a sedan--of some sort---would be smarter.

In other words, put away our personal "wouldn't it be cute to...."..


So yeah I can help on suspension, and other things too...

But there's no need to obsess about wagons....especially since Dave Clark could come on and put up piccies but not say "Yeah you guys can have the wagon" when he had ample opportunity.

Donations eventually will be welcome things, roll cage tubing is expensive, and decent suspension costs something too.

But right now what is most needed is lots of eyes to find a nice derelict car out back of somebody's house that is not a total pile of shit, and to go up and ask...

First things first...
Craigslist cars are people asking for money, we need something with say a dead motor or blown auto trans for low bucks. The Volvo trannies* are crap anyway so a blown trans is a GOOD thing for this plan..


All of them are barely adequate for daily driving unless your a anal retentive engineer or sprout eating hipster who never revs the motor past 2500. Horrible pick up like ratios , massive gap 2nd to 3rd and weak.
We ought to plan for something reliable and tolerant of abuse, and if it just happens to have really nice ratios, then its icing on the cake.

I have only done one event with a truck and trailer (Thanks Dave Kern!)
The three hill climbs I have done with my car I also camped. I was able to pack all my tools, loads of spares, racing gear, and all my camping gear into the back of the Merkur. That was actually the one concern I had with going to a fuel cell.
Cool idea though guys. We've discussed doing something like this a few times too.

You Canadians say the dumbest shit sometimes.
I've come across a few Merkurs in the junkyard. Yeah, they don't tend to make it there because people don't tend to junk/crush them because they are kinda rare. They tend to sit on them until people like me ask around and find free shells. Have one sitting in Boulder just waiting for me to have somewhere to put it and start working on it.
There are multiple people that have stashes of the cars just ready to sell parts at a reasonable price. Sure, I wouldn't want to try to find a working warning module control system or whatever that German bullshit was, but considering you can get WRC replica brakes, control arms, rear beams, rear trailing arms, suspension you surprisingly won't need many spares. Of course, trying to explain the benefits of the ability to have affordable good gearing and diffs to someone who is rallying a 17 year old trailer park girls' dream car is probably a waste of time. Oh wait, I already called Neons that and most Eclipses around here seem to be driven by white trash meth heads.
