there is a round eye 242 here in nampa that I tried telling dan about last year. It's still sitting parked off to the side doing nothing. Not pretty but no rust that I could see when I snuck over and checked it out last year. Its a manual trans and other than that I know nothing about it. I'll stop and see if I can find anyone there today.

OK Al, I am in for $100. Who in Oregon gan go grab and store for a bit? I could come down and drag it up next month, straight to my shop where the dumpster is located for the stripping party/cage prep. I May have a T5 to donate, if we can do a cheap bell John?

I have enough heims and weld bungs for the 4 link. Maybe get William to throw in the boxes and tabs?

I can think of about 20 derelict ones on one hand between Mt Vernon and Portland.
Gawd knows how many outside of Calgary.
Dozens in Chicago.

Great - I never said they weren't around. I was just kinda thinking that they made and sold more volvo 240s in a single year than the total number of Xrattys ever built. You regularly say the big advantage of the volvo is that there are parts available everywhere - and you're right.
Pushing Merkur builds goes against that mindset though.

In all of this talk you're missing the obvious.

Build a MkII or MkIII golf. TONS of development, easy to build a strong, reliable and fast car from one and the chances of having spares to share at an event are fairly high. Half-shafts are rock solid as long as you don't mash the throttle with the steering wheel turned, which you don't need to since rotating the car with LFB is intuitive and effective. Parts all over the place.

With a wagon, you could haul all your spares to the rally in the back. Probably the tools too. AND drive it there, no trailer needed. smiling smiley

Anders

Yeah and pile them all up in a parking lot, in the rain...
And when the clubbie flips the car and crushed the whole rear bart into a hatchback then spend weeks tracking down where all the parts crawled off to

....

John.... get... out.... of... my... head!

I mean, this is a rental/loaner/newb car.... Its gonna get hit, lol.

I spoke with Adam in Portland with the nice marron 240. Heäs all ovr the idea of some reduction in price "for a good cause" and i 'splained him what the idea was and he was "Oh coool".
He rides motorcycles in the woods with his 2 sons and so naturally we mostly yapped about bikes and i 'splained rally and it ended up he volunteered to help on service with him and the boys....
Then I mentioned "why not give a shot at co-driving" and he was "Wow! Sure, why not?"

I think this is looking good for a good reduction in price...might offer $400

Hell anything that rolls down the street gets at least that these days.

And its closer than Bend
