Rally NY nonsense....
February 07, 2007 11:21AM
Well, I don't know how Ivan already got 4 entries for Rally NY in March....They must not have read the supps or itenerary.

$890 plus $120 for notes for ___93.66___stage miles over 2 days!!

Not only that, but he uses the same stages 6-TIMES EACH on day 1 (4 times one way 2 times the other)----AND the longest stage is 4.2 miles!

PLUS, he uses one stage 4 times on day 2 (Twice in each direction)

I would love to compete in the Eastern series of the USRC but I don't want to go play rinky dink rally with Ivan who controls the majority (200 of a maximum 360) of the points available for the championship between his 2 events.

NASA ditched RNY right? Guess that explains it.

Yeah, but he managed to get his 2 events on the USRC schedule anyway...

Meaning that if any of us want a chance at being invited to Laughlin for an invitational-style shootout, we have to go race his events.

Honestly if i have my car ready by then I would compete at that event. I dont care if I i did the same stages ten times. Seat time is seat time unless its seat time on the tow vehicle. RNY is at an advantage. Most people dont wanna tow 10 hours. Its only a 2hr drive for me, 35 mins or so from the summer house. There is a big Irish and some polish contingency in the NYC area as well. If I were to attend I would expect 20-30 more friends and family coming to spectate and support me. I honestly dont see that happening at anyother rally. I have attended RNY several times as spectator/crew and did not have any issues. Doing multiple repetitions of stages in my opinion are good for novices like me. After several runs you know where you f'ed up so you become more confident and can take corrective measures. Most races around the world including WRC repeat several stages in both directions as well. People usually don't realize it coz they rename the reverse stage differently.
If I had a choice for another race nearby I still would not count this one out.

My 2 cents
Oscar

Re: Rally NY Costs

Total Cost for USRC with notes is $1010 for 93.66 stage miles or $10.77 per stage mile.

How does that compare to other national events for 2007?

Costs copied from the Rally NY website:

Entry Fees if received or postmarked
by March 1, 2007:

Saturday Regional 1 (NYRC) Tarmac - $395
Saturday Regional 2 (NYRC) Gravel - $495
Both Regionals (NYRC) - $890
National (USRC) Tarmac/Gravel - $890
Both Regionals and National - $890

Add $150 after March 1

Fees for Course Notes:

Leg 1, Saturday Regional 1 (NYRC) Tarmac $50
Leg 2, Saturday Regional 2 (NYRC) Gravel $70
Leg 1 & 2, National (USRC) $120

Tarmac total SS: 43.42

Gravel total SS: 50.24

In USRC east coast points, you can count any points from any event. So points can be accumulated form any event, up to a max possible points coeffs of 360. This was clarified in a post on SSForum a couple of weeks back. If you ran all the ESRC events, then you would have 280 max points available.

RNY is a share holder in USRC so would logically be included in USRC one way or another.

As for road miles and stage re-use, I can certainly sympathize to some degree. It's hard with limited road selections to achieve any reasonably significant amount of miles. We face a simlar limitation at Rally WV; if you add more roads, the event gets really spread out because it's hard to get a large group of suitable roads in the same vicinity. So re-running roads makes sense to some degree; we have 1 road at Rally WV that we may run 4 times, another 3 (the most popular, Turkeybone Rd) and the rest get run twice.

Best of luck to all in '07!
Mark B.

Anyone else get a letter from RNY in the mail lately? I got one today that read like a rehash of his posts on that other forum last year... Based on the letter it sounds like he's planning on running both events back to back on the same day somehow. My wife has nixed my participation in his event based purely on what I showed her last year.

Here is a limited amount of data on your question:

Note that the chart linked to is for _regional_ entry, not national entry.

And traditionally, how many Rally NY stages are cancelled? The 3 I've done all had cancelled and shortened stages.

Uh, yeah plus hours of delays and general incompetence.

Looks like he quietly changed the format to a 1-day event...

7:00am start--I'll believe it when I see it
9:00pm scheduled Podium--I'll believe it when I see it

Probably get to run less than 80 of the scheduled (whopping) 93miles...

Last year we made an effort to figure out a cheap way to get the car out there without a superstar budget. The transportation plan WAS an indication to us how things were going to go. Then we watched updates in horror how the rally was handled. Thinking the whole time - "OMG What if we drove out there?!"

The email, press release, personal mailing and plead letter went right into the recycle bin. - DROP

I think this PR, marketing bullshit to make every event be a national rally is cat crap. IF you tried to pull off a National Event and you FAILED - try a one day regional next year and pray you get 20 entries.
IF you are a 1 day regional - PLEASE - Don't add a press stage and a parc expose' and try to be a national event without any other changes. The competitors that have been to national events can see right through that.

Stop selling it and start running it RIGHT people!
AND - RallyAmerica already has too many $1000 national events anyway.

Wasn't Treeline $10 a mile last year?
Good times. tongue sticking out smiley
