More new blood for rally.
February 23, 2007 04:35PM
I'm always preaching about whoring rally out to the guys on the street-tuner car forums out there. Well, today I came across this post on 2GNT.com.

Myself and a buddy are looking to buy a older cheap Subie Impreza, or an old EVO to build into a rally car, but we can't find shit here, and I'm not sure where to look, so I thought I would ask Brian or anybody else that might know of some info of where I could buy a car. Looked on egay, didnt find shit.

I directed them to this site and Special Stage. So one person on a DSM site excited about rally has turned into two. By summer, I aim to make it three, and by the end of the year, I'm shooting for a total of four new people in rally from the DSM community.

If you should see Jason (cc8balla) posting here or on SS.com, be sure to tell him hello. He's a sharp character and I expect great things from him.

B

Hey Brian, thanks for the "official" welcome here. I have already dived headfirst into the info here and on SpecialStage, and I think I have my reading for the night.

Honestly, rally is really starting to intrigue me like no other. I might start to perv out on this. (John!)

*Edit: Goddamnit, can't spell.

Have him buy my Galant. You know the car. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Haha! Just rebuild it, eh, chief? winking smiley

It is a sweet ride. Welcome aboard, Jason. Check out the following sites for rallies you might be able to make it to this year. If you can, see if you can volunteer to work at an event. You will not be disappointed.

USRC 2007 schedule.
NASA Rallysport 2007 schedule.
Rally America 2007 Schedule.

UPDATE:

Think we may have found a Golf MkII in Northern Indiana for $250, fairly rust free body, a running 2.0L 16v motor, which is what we wanted. AND, here's the best part..for $300 he'll include a spare motor and trans. So basically $300 for a running car, and a spare drivetrain.

I'm fucking pumped.

Are you sure it has a 16v. Eventhough there is a possibility of a swap the first year of the 16v was 87 on the GTIs and 85 for sciroccos...
Anyhow good luck with the car

Nope, I'm sure it has the 1.8L 8V now. We were misinformed at the start.

That's OK, you can make very nearly the same ft/lbs of torque as wit the 16v and it costs less to do it.
