New MaxAttack!â„¢ Triple Crown Rally Series to Highlight Best Two-Wheel Drive Rally Action in the United States
New championship boasts best payout in American two-wheel drive rallying while promoting the sport through grassroots competition

Minneapolis, MN (April 2, 2007) -- The Rally Sports Group of America (RSGA), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting rallying across the United States, today announced the formation of the annual MaxAttack!™ Triple Crown Rally Series. The first MaxAttack! series – which is focused on encouraging strong competition between two-wheel drive (2wd) teams – will be conducted at three premier U.S. rallies in 2007.

“As an avid rally fan, there is just nothing like a totally committed team pushing a two-wheel drive car to the absolute limit,” explained RSGA co-founder Jake Himes. “We believe this championship and prize money will encourage participation in two-wheel drive vehicles, increase competition within existing classes, and expand awareness of the competitive rallying that takes place at the privateer, grassroots and factory support levels.

“By supporting this level of intense competition at a reasonable entry point for rally teams, RSGA can help create greater awareness of, and participation in, United States rally. This awareness will provide greater value for rally sponsors, teams and events, helping to grow the sport both directly and through new business development.”

The top-finishing 2wd teams at each rally will receive a payout from an $8,000 per-event prize fund, with the overall MaxAttack! champions for the year determined by the team scoring the highest point total from the three events.

J.B. Niday, managing director of Rally America, stated, “I think MaxAttack! is a great concept for a number of reasons. The focus is two-wheel drive, and those guys deserve more attention. It is designed to support the grassroots competitor who otherwise can't afford to travel all over the country. And, it’s nice the schedule is spread out to each part of the country: the East, West and Midwest.”

NASA Rally Sport’s Anders Green agreed. “NASA Rally Sport is excited to be a part of the MaxAttack! program. It's clear to us that two-wheel drive racing must be a focus in this sport to provide a path to exposure and sponsorship for the grassroots competitor, who is the heart of rally.”

The series will kick off at the Oregon Trail Rally, to be held April 20-22 in Hillsboro, Ore. The Triple Challenge then moves east to the Rally West Virginia, to be conducted on Aug. 4 in Elkins, W. Va. The series concludes at the well-known Lake Superior Rally in Houghton, Mich. on the weekend of Oct. 26-27.

Why only 3 events ?
Why 2 RA 1 NASA ?

I'm sure there are more events that can be used.

I was not thrilled by that short statement either but I will not complain. This is great news where do I sign up for Rally West Virginia at least. Finally an incentive to break the car and drive it properly. The Rally WV stages are real nice for a xr with good suspension.

We had to do this. In some events the mileages aren't the same and we wanted to avoid having to have people sifting through results to find out where they really finished. We wanted to have our results right up there for everyone to see.

We couldn't make it perfect for everyone but we worked pretty hard to get it to help as many 2wd teams as much as we can and we think it will do a lot of good for many teams.

Hmmm should I get another airplane, one on wheels and really fast, or a max atack car, that also has wheels and is really fast? something to think about.

That depends on how you define fast. If you're trying to get from point A to point B in a hurry, you can pick up a used Mooney 231 or maybe a Piper Commanche for not too much. Personally, the 6 is fast enough for me and I'd like to get something to go low and slow in. I miss putzing around in the Cub.

I think min of 300 HP and rwd would be a good combo in max attack.

I had just shy of 200 in the golf so I would like a lot more, something to really put me back in the seat.

300 HP FWD would be fine too but is harder to make reliable and easy to drive me thinks, I am also not a big fan of turbos so I will need more cubic inches then a 4 cyl likely. Topi has me doing math, starting with a good modern car might save a lot of money.

I have the low not so Cessna 180 float plane now, I am more looking for the fast and fairly high IFR thing to make trips in, an RV7 might work or a P210 if I want to take people along... Hell a small partnerhsip in a SR22 might not be bad... so many things to think about.

Hm. Well, I dunno. Maybe a V6 like the offroad truck boys use, stuffed into a ratty or moostang. Or maybe you can do something with an Ovlov. This is more JVL's area than mine.

Or, maybe talk to Dennis Chizma about a Porsche. He's got a C4 that seems pretty reliable. Dunno how it handles or what it'd be like in 2WD.

I just looked up the specs on a P210. Those're way faster than I thought they were. Nearly 200kias! The 6 cruises at around 150kias, but it'll easily hold 4 mountain bikes if you take out the third row of seats, and we've often carried around two mopeds.

That would be plenty.

Try AWD

Think rotary...a peripheral ported 13B (13B=plentiful) will produce 300 hp. Any 1st or 2nd gen RX7 will hold them. Replace the silly rear upper control arms in a 1st gen with long ones. Mount up an entire upright, crossmember, and steering rack from a 2nd gen and you'll have bigger everything up front, The brakes aren't big, they are huge.

Or do like Colin in lower MI and make an XR8. Geez how much power do you need, use a bloody V8. And make it badass like Utechts. He figured that 400 foot-pounds at the wheels anywhere from 3k to 6K would work. The NW needs one of those.

Or, you might not like turbos but watch Cary Kendal's SRT4 launch a couple of times at OT. Then watch a couple PGT Subies launch. Pretty much the same acceleration from a dead stop.
