Here's some shocking details of what the "lower cost" S2000 cars cost to build and run.
Count us lucky we have Gp2 and Gp5!

Hell it is cheaper than a WRC car. Cheaper than a JWRC car as well.

They dont want s2000 to replace WRC, they want it to replace group N.

Group N is two manufacturers, and the FIR wants more to come play. However the niche market for roadgoing rally cars is pretty well full with just subies and mitsus, so no one is going to make a "production" car with Group N homoligation numbers to compete.

Hence s2000, much lower homoligation numbers gets more manufacturers playing ball, without having to spend stupid stupid wrc money. Notice how Peugeot jumped right back into rally after swearing off Rally for LeMans. Fiat's in, VW is in, Ford is going to be in right? Renault is in. I'd bet it wont be long before some Japanese companies jump in as well, if they aren't already involved/developing.

Personally I'd like s2000 to replace everything other than club level. It would go Group F -> s2000

Pricey as hell, but I can see the logic, above. In order for the sport to go places, they need more entrants. (Even at the top levels, they have a hard time finding entries?)

It would be interesting to see all kinds of cars and teams out there.

The first I ever heard about S2000 involved Suzuki. However, this may just be a figment of my imagination.

The way I read it, now that I'm reading on it, S2000 doesn't strictly need to replace GpN, since S2000 cars can compete as GpN cars in the PWRC. Subaru and Mitsubishi can run their turbo thingies and the other manufacturers can run their non-turbo "WRC Lite" cars and they can have all the AWD fun they want.

Toyota is running S2000 cars, even ran Alister at RAC in one last year.

Suzuki may have had s2000 plans but everything I've heard out of them lately is about their Full WRC bid next year and their continuation in the JWRC. The SX4 is a turbo away from being a GroupN competitor as well, so I don't see the point of them (or subaru, or mitsu) making a s2000 car.
