First, I'll start with a quote that is applicable here.

Quote

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.” John Ruskin

Next, if you want a cage, built with as much interior room as possible, with more than the minimum safety in mind, and the ability to preserve the core of your tub along with the assurances it will be done on time, by an experienced person, using appropiate materials and billed at the price quoted when you agreed, then your best bet is to find a shop with a good reputation for building cages and pay their price.

But...If it is acceptable to you to skimp on any of those aspects, then expect the shop to skimp on additional aspects and not always tell you.

Or, do it yourself. It usually takes experience with about three cages for someone to start getting a sense about how to design a cage so that it works better than bare minimum.

A high price doesn't always mean it's a great cage. But it's hard to get a quality part for a bargain basement price. The few times I've heard of that happening, it's only because the cage was a small portion of an entire car build all done by the same shop.

You can do all the profiles with a chop saw and grinder if you are willing to put in some time.
But a stick of remnant ERW in 1.75" and practice a bunch of 10-40 degree profiles on that before you build a cage. And a piece of soapstone.

Do I need to make a how to video?

please do grant! i'm building my celica cage for sure. the wait for this one makes me wanna jump gun and do it myself but the fabricators said i could help in the process so getting to build with one of the best fab shops in town is a plus so waiting is essential. i just wanna ensure i'm ready for radium rally in may

Or I could just throw it on a trailer drive down to Denver have a cage built and a video made, 2 birds 1 cage !!!
