I agree, a very fast E36 BMW rally car could be had when compared to a 25k stock FRS. I'm thinkin' of a sub-10k pre-crashed one though. The BMW would still be cheaper, but not by a horrible amount, right?

I can provide a ready to rally E36 BMW for $15k.
If you do rally a BRZ, just avoid all of the electronics and leave it nearly stock and go have fun.

I can provide a ready to rally brz for 15k plus his parts from the car he wrecked.tongue sticking out smiley
No I prolly couldnt but pretty close.

The front and rear susp is similar to the 08 up impreza. I think I finaly got a handle on what needs to happen in the rear of these cars. Ive got better then 15 of these on watches at various auctions. I think these will be a good car to play in the dirt. I do like the BMW. Im with Dmitriy though rust sucks!

I'm talking labor, suspension, skids, seats, etc.
What are decent ones going for at auction?

Im ribbing you I dont think I could truly build one that cheaply. and still pay the light bills! They are around 8 to 10k. There was one a few weeks ago buy it now of $8400 not sure what it sold for threw the auction. There is actually a nice white one flood title in Denver now. Says runs and drives.

I've been keeping an eye on some auctions. Rallycross guy came by last week with a hail damaged one that may be totaled that we may try to buy. Flood would be good also. Of course, if we do find one, we'd have to figure out a way to pay for it.
Sure would be nice to find a customer wanting to build one for rallying.

So, what does the brz have over the e36 bmw?

Is the e36 prefered to the e30?

Seems like you could get a LOT of e36 for even used brz prices. And the gravel machine gun seems to be hauling ass... Is it that much faster with a m3 motor compared to a 2.8L out of a 328i? Or does it just throw that much more gravel?

Not that I'm having any thoughts about ditching the STi... But rwd sure is fun smiling smiley

I drove Jason Bailey's FRZ last weekend, it went into limp mode far too regularly - leading theory is LFB was the culprit. The car was anemic in 2nd gear, but I'm not sure what size tires were on it... gear ratios were stock. The 2.5RS I drove, with less HPsauce but slightly more jam - when new, had far more grunt on the stage.

What surprised me was the amount of room in the car. Even with a cage that was more restrictive than it needed to be, being in the car was super comfortable and relatively roomy. I'm 6' even and had plenty of headroom.

When I drove the stock FRS, power was definitely underwhelming until you get it wound up. Not having it go into limp mode when left foot braking would definitely be nice...

Nothing other than it's newer and more Subaru-ish. The E36 is probably better in most things and is one vehicle we are developing parts for. Skid plate, weld in turrets, and more.

The E36 is better than the E30 because it's newer and there are more of them and there are better stock engine options and they are better.

I assume you're talking about Derik's car? The M3 engine is nice. The 2.8L can make near the same power with M3 cams, probably close enough to not matter much on gravel.

the FRS / BRZ is a 4.11 final drive. a 4.44 is $45 from a pick n pull (well 1/2 off day) smiling smiley

i think KAZZ makes a 4.54 final for it as well. not sure if that is worth the extra $1,000 over a 4.44 ... depends on how big of a wallet you have.

not sure what all Datsun final drivers are out there, but should also be interchangeable.

never mind they are all LOWER than the 4.11

man RWD would be so cool. you can just change 1 Diff / final drive and call it a day ... why would anyone go AWD ? :p

3.9 or 4.1 for BMW easily found in junkyard along with a nice ramped style clutch type diff.

Why indeed when it makes everything more expensive, and takes away a good portion of the driving challenge?

Funny how you make opinion sound so much like fact. The driving challenge in AWD is somewhat different, but it is most certainly still there.
Makes me wonder if you've ever driven an AWD car quickly in an stage rally.
