TIME. I doesn't haz it. 14-16 hr workdays (salaried), of late 7-days a week.

BUT, my shitpile of a place is nearly paid-off (THIS YEAR! HAHA! - 16 years early!), I owe on one car, a few things here & there. I have enough in the bank that, if I lost my job at the end of the month, I would not have to worry 'til the end of the year.... (pssst. I'm losing my job at the end of the month),

All my other "liquid assets" are Invested and unreachable. Substantial Penalty for early withdrawel, and all that.

All on one income. (The Wife is Disabled with MS and 100% blind in her left eye).

Sounds like a bunch of excuses. Don't sweat it. There are things that I want more than rally and racing too. But if you REALLY want it you'd quit your slavedriver salary job for some thing that gave you more time, you wouldn't waste time paying for property that didn't get you closer to the sport (like a house), you would not owe on a car, but would daily drive a beater, and you'd take the penalty on withdrawing your investments if that cash was needed, and leave the spouse/companion that can't help you with your rally goals.

That is if you REALLY wanted to rally. Aparently some other things are more important to you. To some bizarre people they aren't.

From someone who got his priorities right, organized his life and retired at 40 to do the things I like. From a 44 year old geezer.

I love that post.
I hear a ton of complaining, woe is me, if only I had that opportunity... type of things in the rally community. "Well _____ only got there because of who his dad was" kind of stuff. Yeah, they may have gotten a little lucky, Jari may come from a wealthy family in Finland with a strong rally background and the ability to support him in his endeavors. But I also guarantee in high school he was living and breathing cars and not going to shopping malls, car shows with sluts, or worrying about the stance on his ride. He was probably either driving or working on his rally cars. Same goes for Colin, Burns, and Possum (the four who's auto/biographies I have read.)

I don't regret any of the sacrifices I failed to make to try to become a rally god. I do want to figure out a way to help the next generation be able to rally and not spend their days worrying about the Kardashians and glued to twitter on their smart phone.

Indeed, when I was looking through his photobucket of the car for sale. I just stopped and stared at that for a few minutes. Incredible photo that even got me excited just looking at it imagining sliding through that beautiful road. Mmmm.

Isn't it just beautiful? The photo draws you in, the road wiggle amkes you want to go and see where it goes..

I don't see how people drive in parking lots or flat single plane tracks with nothing around..
