Opinion on Impact Racing helmets

Does anyone have first hand knowledge or opinions on Impact Racing's open face helmets? Their Velocity or RallyX helmet.

Weight, fit, quality

I have an older one. maybe 10 years old? open face, like the top one. It fit fine from what i recall but i didn't have a lot to compare it to other than a couple motorcycle helmets. not as comfy as the peltor, but felt very solid. There was enough room to fit the terror-trip speakers by my ears comfortably and securely.

Don't know how one bought today would compare, but that's what i can tell ya.

Yeah, I don't need a headset. I already have an in-ear setup I'm going to use.

This just showed up at my door yesterday. Super impressed with the construction, and fit. It comes with ear cups that hold the speakers and seal out noise, similar to Peltor. It also allows me to wear my glasses comfortably as well. I've had a few helmets that it was nearly impossible to use my spectacles in.
The construction is fiber glass and kevlar/aramid. Weighs about 3.5lbs in the large size.

Looking forward to trying it on stage here at Olympus. I can then give some decent feedback.

I had also looked into them. I was a bit disappointed that their carbon fiber helmet weighs more than my old Peltor helmet and many of the non-carbon fiber new helmets that I've been looking at.

Grant, it might be a safe assumption that most helmets under $600 are made in China.

Very true. Though how many low end helmets use the same molds? I can think of few brands that have the same exact shape as other brands. G-Force, Race Quip come to mind.

I would really like to see actual test data for helmets. Just some simple accelerator data from a drop test. After being involved in impact attenuator testing, it is amazing how much better some flimsy composites do compared to the standard honeycomb and foams. There is definitely a threshold were a more flexible helmet will not be as beneficial in a crash, but at that point are our brains already mush?

At least from what I've found over the years of trying on helmets and owning multiple helmets, the more expensive ones are generally more comfortable, fit better, and don't fall apart in comparison to the cheap helmets.

I've used Simpson Open and Full Face helmets for 36 years. Been upside down in a Formula Ford and a few Rally Cars.
Excellent design, fit, service, and I'm still standing.

I think it might just be as unique as head shape.

I know Mark doesn't like my Bell at all, in either size, but to me it's the most comfortable helmet I've worn. Having worn a Stilo extensively and owning a Peltor, the Bell just feels a lot more snug, without any pressure points. Will see how it holds up over the next few years.
