1984 WRC Champion Stig Blomqvist to pilot a Tuthill Porsche Team 911 on September's Classic Rally of South Africa
Former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist will compete on the inaugural Classic Rally of South Africa in September, it has been announced.
Blomqvist will compete with the Tuthill Porsche Team and will pilot a 911 on the five-day event. His entry comes thirty years after he won the Ivory Coast Rally, en-route to the 1984 WRC Drivers' title.
“We're delighted to announce a second 911 partnering John Lloyd's Tuthill Porsche for this 2,000-kilometre adventure through a truly epic landscape,” said Richard Tuthill, MD of the renowned classic Porsche specialist, who famously ran seventeen Porsche 911s on last year's Safari Classic Rally: the largest private rally team ever assembled.
“A second Tuthill Porsche is exciting enough: driven by a former World Rally champion makes it doubly special,” he added.
“Stig showed great pace on last year's Safari Classic Rally, finishing second overall for Tuthill Porsche after losing the lead due to a puncture on the very last stage. We're looking forward to supporting the original Stig – a seven-time Swedish Rally winner - over 800 kilometres of stages through the spectacular Mpumalanga District,” Tuthill concluded.
