Hey all!
I'm looking at having a test day in late July at Coldwater Ranch in Merritt. I'm just gauging interest for this so let me know if your interested!!
Possibly July 26, 27 weekend
$225.00 per car
Camping on site available
Nicki

From what I'm hearing, a ~5Km stage that has good technical mix, reasonably safe. On a test day you can virtually run till you're done but still have the chance to change set-ups and play with a few things. Great fun, great for learning.

The test day, rally weekend, is a go... http://www.rallybc.com/

A great opportunity to get out and learn your car in a safe, sanctioned environment. Only 4.5 hrs from Seattle! (I'm hearing some teams are traveling 8hrs for the test day, some volunteers closer to 12hrs!)

For anyone thinking about this test day there is a strong chance of postponement or cancellation due to an active froest fire in the immediate area AND high fire risk in the area.
A final decision will be made Sunday.

Oh, just to get political...

You could say that our savory PM's view on natural resources would be a benefit here...

If we stopped fighting forest fires, they would burn more often with less intensity and potentially less damage. So if our current governments lack of "care" for understanding "nature" (read up on the closing of the experimental lakes district fiasco: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_Lakes_Area) subsequent decrease in funding leads to less fire fighting, maybe the forest won't burn so well next time.

Wait... global climate change? change in precipitation patterns? naa... doesn't exist. Carry on.

Forgot to add this...

Hey everyone:
The fire conditions are improving and we’ve looked at a couple of contingency plans, so as of today it looks like the Test Day is a go!

We still have room for a few more cars on Sunday... I'm actually more than a bit disappointed about the lack of cars coming up from the states for the test day... It's a real stage road and a chance for some real seat time and set-up testing.

5km---3 miles.
People here won't drive 120 km---2 hours---to drive/practice on ENDLESS hundreds of miles of safe clear more-than-2-mile-visibility-minimum roads, for just the cost of gas.

It's not how long it is, it's how you use it.
it's not 3 miles because most teams will get just about as many passes as they want during the day. (Most times we've ended up with an hour at the end of a test day where people simply say 'no thanks - we're done)

For development purposes a short repeatable stage is FAR FAR FAR better than endlessly driving on an open road. Run the stage twice, change suspension settings, run it again and see what's faster, better, more comfortable. Play with tire pressures, play with co-drivers, play with other cars, play with notes...

Test day was awesome.

6 cars showed up in the end - well, 7 showed up but one didn't run because of mechanical issues.

Everyone ran till they didn't want to run anymore...

Lots of learning, both for the local organizers and the people who came out to play.

Lots of people got ad-hoc tips from Taisto... (the number 1 ranked driver in Canada for lifetime points, the guy who came out of retirement after more than 30 years away and won 2wd nationally in his first event back!)

I had a chance to drive a couple of cars... a dangerous thing to do. One was a 2.5RS I used to compete against... it was awesome, and the current owner picked up a few pointers from it.

Probably the most fantastic thing was that the club not only made a a bit of cash, but we charged low fees for accommodations at the ranch ($25/night in the lodge, $15/night camping) and that, combined with outright donations, raised $1195 for the Abilitas foundation who run the respite lodge.

Talk about the next one have already started... could include night stage testing, driver training (from someone who knows driving and training,) volunteer training, and more!
