WRC experience?

Hey,

Just seeing if anyone has any tips for navigating in the WRC, I've got experience at national level, and international rallying(Australia and NZ) but haven't ever done the full FIA WRC stuff.

I know they sometimes like to carry on like wankers and get narky over really trival stuff and wondered if there is a way to make it go a little smoother?

Will be in a Feista R2 driven by a younger guy with a bit of talent, not much experience but plenty of drive and enthusiasm.

Cheers
Andrew

I'd say the main thing is to practice getting LEFT and RIGHT straight...
You're on t'other side of the world and everything on the right side is flipped around and that's confusing.. and most of the civilised world drve on the other side and has the wheel on the other side, more confusion---I've dented floors stomping on brakes which t'weren't there when in Wrong side drive vehicles when riding as ballast...

The other thing is since you guys evidently drink beer non-stop from waking till you collapse face down in the wee hours of the morn, you might want to broaden your tastes in your poisons. Granted all rally in Europe, even in France, runs mainly on beer during working hours, but in the evenings you may have to quaff 2-3 boutilles de vin de pay.....better start training.

Oh and the ubiquitous Oz habit of referring to all people from where ever they are as "bastids" can sometimes confuse people so make sure you use the familiar like "Fawkin Pommie Bastids" and "fawkin Fritzie Bastids" and "fawkin Froggie Bastids" so they'll know you're not getting uppity (this was actually 'splained to me by a friend from Perth in just that manner. jus' sayin')

Can't think of anything else just now , gotta go assemble some struts and pack them.

Glad I could help, Fred.

Assuming you're talking about Rally Australia...
- Talk with locals who've done the event; not a web forum that is primarily people on the other side of the planet
- The event is likely going to be not that different from your national events.
(are you entering the WRC event or the ARC event that's running along with it?)
- Try asking the organisers http://www.rallyaustralia.com.au/contact/
or here:
Competitor Enquiries
Mrs Leanne Betts
competitors@rallyaustralia.com.au
- Read and KNOW this: http://www.rallyaustralia.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/RALLY-AUSTRALIA-GUIDE-1-FINAL-22052014.pdf
- When the next Rally Guide and the supp regs are released, read and know them as well.
- Read and know the FIA rules around event operations.

If you're confident in your co-driving, then the rest is just understanding, and following, the rules you're playing under and the organisers can be as picky as they want and it doesn't matter.

Both very good and helpful responses.

Yes it is Rally Australia WRC Event, and I've already read the rally guide etc.
I'm confident I can do the job well and have the correct FIA apparel, brushing up on the FIA specific regs will be the biggest part of it. (and those froggie bastids!)
I'd like to drop a few kg beforehand and that may take some doing

I have mates that have competed before, and will chat to them, I've tended to avoid the local forum and asked here to get a broader opinion/experience base.

Still deciding if I want to do it, but think it would be silly not to(I. We'll know how we gel in the car after this weekend where we're entered in a local rally.

P.S. I've tried two different beers so I should be right for the after party.

The most critical preparation.

Well he din't say the WRC event in question was his HOME event in OZ... I figured he was heading to do a You're-a-peein' event..
But far as i can tell those guys down there are fierce when it comes to their fave brews..
And every state has different rules and names for things. A schooner in one place is one thing, a stubbie is a stubbie...

Tricky stuff to keep straight even inside your own country, specially after you pour in a few frosty flaggons.
