for those who haven't seen it yet...

It's worth streaming to a big-screen, or at least full screen on whatever you're watching it on...

Yeah but is the hyper-slow motion getting well over-clichéd, especially the switching to randomly_ If something dramatic was happening, say the car whamming into something hard maybe, or the car transitioning from turning like carve to slide OK.

I was taught when studying film to do things for a reason. Every cut, every fade, every dissolve, slow mo long shot whatever, it should be done for a reason.

Looked HOT, and when its hot out there its usually muggier than hell..

Have to agree the super slo-mo is played out. I get what's cool about watching the dirt "bend," but seen it enough now.

But that gives me an idea, I'll put it in the "This Will Save Rally" thread.

For my trips to Baie (three, I think), the mugginess was tolerable because it was below 80F. Although I think I got wet each time I crewed there, and once I had to chase an EZ-up tent.

The production companies involved are widely considered to be at the leading edge of the game when it comes to this type of video work... I'm happy to default to their take on cliché or not.

Yup. That was one of the big take-aways for me from my film studies classes as well. I also remember my profs agreeing that aesthetic reasons were valid reasons. There is also a lot less 'control' when shooting/editing documentary style.

I personally love slo-mo in rally because you can see so much more of what is going on... but like any effect, there's a point at which it becomes over-used.

I liked it. I don't think the slo mo was over done. It seemed like it was more in the intro which was cool.

But I think its kinda like call of duty montages (or any fps for that matter). Before, nobody knew how to edit video and only how to play the game. So they basically took their best clips and put it to some music. It wasn't a video production masterpiece, but you could appreciate the skill of the clips because of the lack of editing. Now the clips are sooo edited that you can't really tell if the clips are good or not just by watching the video. One big thing is to fast forward the aim time to make it SEEM like they have these awesome twitch reflexes. LAME. This video managed to not really do all of those things.

I liked it. good music to use for that video.

"slow mo is cliche " sure fair enough
"a video of cars is cliche " if slow mo is cliche then so is any car video
"a video on the internet is cliche" a natural progression right ?

I think we've gone far enough that complaining about a video being cliche is cliche itself.

one thing when watching the video i always forget ... Canada has rally spectators... :O thumbs up smiley

i think the RA Nationals get them too ... never been in a rally with much for spectators , it might make it even more fun ....

My only beef with the video is the OVER use of the super slo-mo. I like to think some special effects use should be done more sparingly. Kind of like the unofficial journalist's creed of leading with a quote in the news story, you get to do it twice in your career, so it had better be something like the Pope screaming "FUCK!"

Oh, and Baie knows how to handle spectators…bleachers, open space, interesting features at the spectator areas, short hike in and out, and Poutine and Beer trucks! I was able to spectate a good portion of two stages AND service (for a low-demand team) with a moderate amount of hustle. It may be different now, as it's been seven or so years since I've been.
