Given that Audi has won 13 of the las 16 events, I'd say that, more often than not, there in fact is a substitute. But, I suppose, even a blind squirrel finds a nut, from time to time.

You must be too young to remember, or worse have ever worked on, the Audi 100LS. Yeah, they have improved since then, but the 100LS's I worked on for my Porsche customers where the worst fucking cars ever made! The engineers and management that approved those cars should have been lined up and shot.

So, yeah, Audi has changed, but just the name "Audi" gives me the heebee jeebees.

It all went down hill once the Audi engine designers discovered you could mix crack cocaine and LSD.

That is the only explanation for WTF is going on here......

You also have to remember that Porsche last competed 16 years ago, so Audi have had a free run since the likes of Mazda Porsche and Mercedes were competing.

Everything with the V8 post-belt era. I think the engine first showed up in the B6 S4.

What was funny was Audi was telling people sure, you don't need to do oil changes for 15-20k miles. Then the chains would jump at 60k and instant $20k repair bill.

Of course some people would say that this is acceptable, because after 60k miles the car is old and you should really be driving a new car because new is better.

It's really not that crazy in there. One chain for the jackshafts, one for each cylinder head, and a fourth chain to drive some other stuff (P/S pump and oil pump I think) It's the same jackshafted setup they used on the VR6 and inline five except there are (obviously) two banks to take care of.

Certainly a hell of a lot better than one big long chain to drive everything.

This is why you can buy a b6 s4 for cheaper than an a4.
