Flatbed

So, the flatbed trailer i bought to haul the rally car is getting an overhaul. I towed Kobayashi's car once, my car a couple times, my other rabbit a few times and the wife's car across country. Soooooo.....only one brake is wired in. The other is just hanging out in mid-air. 14 boards, 7 bolts per board and only 3 boards didnt have any bolts break or already broken. 3 boards did not have and good bolts (all broken).

Gonna rewire the entire trailer and add in reverse lights.
Have the new boards, waiting on hardware.
Gonna mount a winch for pulling cars on (was so much fun to use ratchet straps to get the rally car on afterwards)
Gonna perm mount the tool box up front.

Want to mount the spare (possibly 2 spares) somewhere as well. Ideas?

As for the brakes.....any tips/tricks or other things i should keep in mind when wiring in both sides?

I really like the tire rack I had added to the front of my trailer.

Holds the trailer spare and a bunch of rally tires.

run ground wires and get some LED lights on the thing. also add a break away kit while you are at it.

Stomp down on the exhilarator and hold on to the wheel.

I would build a shallow triangle box for the tongue area for tie-downs and to hold the winch battery (can't run the winch off the tow vehicle and make sure you unhook it when you use the winch). I would surely find a use for that framework fore and aft of the fenders since most car haulers don't have that extra real estate.

You towed my truck on it once!

LED lights are great, so much less trouble than the old style incandescent bulbs. A lockable storage box and spare tire are very important. Repack the wheel bearings and don't scrimp on tires!

Thats right. Hauled all that and only one brake wired in. Im surprised this thing made that far plus 3500 miles with close to 10k lbs on it.

Have already been looking at LED markers and tails. Have single LED lights Im going to use as back ups. Pretty bright. Found a line on 7-wire cable. Thats a plus. Already has a 7 pin plug, middle pin just not used.

I want to chop off that bar (its hollow square tube) where the winch is mounted and create something new. Like mentioned, a tire rack or something.

Creating a shallow box on the tongue is a good idea. I just had an old truck bed box strapped down there. Too tight of a turn and i hit it though (already did).

Checked again, only one axle has brakes. Would it be worth it to swap out the non-brake axle with one having brakes? Meaning having two axles with brakes? Is it necessary?

Got a line on new axle hardware and bearings.

Already replaced the jack.

mine still needs new tires (age not wear) / wheels and a good paint job. I'm lucky that there is a large trailer supply place in town, it's just a matter of going down there but we keep towing to canada instead.
