I don't know if racing style/one nut hubs are of any use.. probably not? Maybe the axles are stronger?

If I can find strong axles I would be tickled to pitch the 9" Ford rear axle. It is heavy and is said to eat more power then the Volvo axle. Just what I need.... More power to the rear wheels!!

Anyone know of super strong axles that won't break in the splines for a Volvo axle?

I've never owned a 240.. but I've read a bit about them and hear this and that. The main problem I guess would be with the ford 9" is that it's probably serious unsprung weight and big rotational mass.. but that's just my gut feeling.

As I said before I can't read Swedish, but 2700kr = $350 USD. The other price listed is 20000kr which is $2,600 USD. Maybe he spent 20000kr on it and just wants 2700 for the front and 2700 for the rear.

I would imagine those are probably as strong as axle halfs get for the volvo rear end, unless they are just for show. But one would imagine they are built for tarmac racing of 240s where breaking axles putting power down is a real issue.

Of course if you ended up with units like that you would have to buy the not so cheap wheels as well.

Andrew I have a 9" Ford under my Volvo NOW due to breaking the Volvo axles over and over.
Unsprung weight? Yup. Got lots more of that then the Volvo axle sported.

I've never broken a housing yet. I broke every imaginable limited slip until I welded an open diff up.....Then I broke all the wheelstuds twice..... then I broke axles in the splines.... 'Exciting' does not quite match how it is trying to gather the thing up when one of the axles breaks (unexpectedly) exiting a turn while applying BIG power to the outside wheel......

At least you know you're getting *some* of that power down...!

(man, that is so weird to see Jeep front axles under the back of some European thing... almost like opening the hood of a Triumph and seeing, oh I dunno, some old Buick engine maybe)

I can only imagine. I've broken the front spindle on a tractor once.. that was interesting.

You're the guy with that ludicrous sleaved engine right? That must be hella fun. Do you find it to be competitive with AWD/4WD cars? Or does that really depend on ground conditions?

I plan on breaking a few axles eventually in my 140 series cars.. which is why I've got a lot of bits in my basement.

Yeah it's different. All of my friends arn't into european cars at all so they always find something to go "what the hell is this" on.

It's a pretty good design all in all. Especially considering when they were made 200 rwhp was about as much as anyone was doing with them.

ON Gravel the thing will pin you in the seat with acceleration.
I find this to be amusing.

I have never broken an axle on tarmac......It just lights up the tires, but on gravel........

When it was together and driven well (good luck having the two happening at the same time!!) we were competitive with the top runners.....a few years ago. I'm eager to bring it back out.

I remember hearing a story about you driving that car down the interstate without a windshield. And another one of you taking it to the drag strip.

It's good to read your posts again, it was a lot of fun on Specialstage in the fall of 2004. You used to make me laugh... especially when you accused me of being a Barista at Starbucks.

Not that that isn't a noble profession. Serving an $.11 shot of expresso with $.05 of milk, serving it for $3.25, and calling it a latte'.

While doing it with a straight face and smiling it the customer.

----Much.....Rear end is dead, rear suspension needs attention, injection needs programming, Front suspension/brakes need replacement......Cage needs updating.... Seats will have to be replaced, Belts too..... Intercom is shit (Terracom...they are all shit)... Clutch hydraulics...

Well I wish I was a Barista because apparantly the foaming of the milk is all about the wrist action to get optimum yield, and with that kind of wrist action I could enjoy myself more when alone... oh never mind !

I do know a little about the coffee and resturant industry, but that's from building and renovating a few places.
