Since I know a lot of you are from the area and like not only the beautiful outdoors but also a challenge thought I'd share my New Year's day hike.
Rattlesnake Ridge: Just South of North Bend 4 miles from I-90. Several options when you get there but a challenging 4 mile round trip with the last 100ft climb ice covered rocks. I can imagine if you're a real thrill-seeker you would wait for a bit more snow and then give it a shot it could be a lot of fun. Most of the hike has at least 35 degree inclines with some as steep as 50 degrees, narrow paths with some decent ledges. I loved the hike, although as I stood at the top on this totally ice covered rock with 300ft drop offs on each side and about 20 other hikers who also had just reached the top, the thought did occur to me that if one of us slips and falls we all go down like a stack of dominos! That limited my time at the top but it was a really beautiful panoramic view. Took me about an hour or so to make it to the top and about 45 minutes on the return (think snowball downhill crossed with Forrest Gump arms flailing), I'm not sure if there has ever been a hiker get injured running into a tree but I came close. Here are a couple of pics. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/02/2013 01:49AM by Wannabe. |

Seven or eight of us rallyists met for breakfast at 9:30 in Bailey, CO. From there we headed south into the Wellington Lake and Buffalo Peaks area of Pike National Forest. For the next six or so hours we blasted around the region on single lane roads covered in ice and snow. There was one part where we came around a corner to a foot deep water pit surrounded by ice. The first car, a 95 Impreza, made it through with no damage. The second car ended in this.
We ended up towing him backwards out and sent another Impreza through, then I jumped in the BMW and blasted through it. The Saturn and Legacy wagon then Aaron once again got stuck in his Impreza but this time with the ass under water instead of the nose. Lots of fun, sunny skies, snowy roads, saw two or three other vehicles out there all day long. My BMW got 13.2 MPG and averaged 20.79 MPH over the whole route. Best potential rally stages every except Pike National Forest has NO interest in ever holding a rally in the area so for now, it's just a fun drive. BMW on new Blizzak WX70s is fun! Grant Hughes |

Inexorable logic. Inarguable.. Better tip their Tech guy off. After all their goal is to have one brand Series. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |
