world class vs non world class t5
January 18, 2013 08:38PM
Hey fellas

Since you guys break stuff, I was wondering your thoughts on the two choices of t5's.
I found one with the uber nice 2.95 first out of an 84(I think) 5.0 gt at the junkyard on half off day (non wc).
I also have a wc one with the 3.35. Both will need rebuilding.
Everyone is all up on the wc t5's but the only difference superficially that I can find on the net is that they (wc) shift smoother and have less drag internally. Both have the same torque rating but given the same strength internals, the 2.95 *should* be stronger right?

What are you's opinions on the two varieties?

Im personally leaning toward the 2.95 non wc. Any tips on rebuilding? Anything that definitely needs replacing?

God this post is a disorganized brain dump.

How snug should the yoke be in the tailshaft bushing?

That's a hard call casue the rear seal is usually some herking big thing. But I'd say "one or so red c**t hairs" looser than a piston in the bore.

this seems to be an area seldom looked at and likely the root of many a drive-line vibe

I figured inasmuch. You might be able to fit the whole bush off an italian in this one...
Definitely looser than the other t5 I have.
I bought a new bushing from ford for <$20.
Thanks John.

Oh yeah. The yoke sits snug now. I thought I would need to hone the bushing but it fits very well now.

I'm convinced a lot of complaints from T5 swaps and thetales of woe and intrigue about funny special prop shafts come from nobody checking this boring simple bush.

I always say inspect every bush carefully.eye popping smiley
