The best jazz drummer i've ever known got bummed out and killed himself with his wifes pistol last month. He was a high stress guy, but was well known for helping out many folks during rough times.

I don't know if a law of some sort would have prevented it, but free and easy access to guns by all didn't help.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'm sure you would agree...laws allowing any decent person...

Unfortunately with so little knowledge of who the hell you are I'm not in a position to accept any judgement calls. Especially someone who wants to make this a race thing. We are not waterfowl, I don't agree with you or how sure you are. Especially if any of the people you call decent support the current administrations policy of killing, maiming and orphaning children and murdering innocent adults with drone strikes. I understand you like to bring that race thing up so tell me: why is it ok to kill brown skinned people as long as its outside the US? How decent could people be when they know people are suffering? Do decent people make 'white people' jokes with racist inferences?

Something that has recently bothered me is: I'm being told I need to CC to protect myself, my family, and all the other white people in my town

Project much?

It seems clear to me that more armed people make everyone less safe.

Statistics (and a very well written book, now in its third edition prove otherwise.) Well researched and verified, they will trump made up, unsourced statistics every time. Speaking of:

It's just wrong headed. Highly trained LEO's barly average 70%, and routinely fire dozens of rounds at suspects to possibly hit them a couple times. But I'm supposed to think arming Ms. Lewis, the 63 year old 2nd grade teacher is going to make the local elementary school safer?? Columbine High had an ARMED security officer. The newest national surveys show that only 24% of Americans own a gun and only 35ish% of Americans live in a household with a gun in it. You are in the minority,(the same minority I am in).

Sigh. You really do show your colors here. First of all, no local force of LEO's unless they are incredibly well funded are highly trained. Officers in rural areas rarely even have to re-qualify. Wanna know why a handful of NYPD officers need half a pallet of 40 smith to answer a man with gun call? (One I will remind you that the officers hit more than a half dozen people, and none of them was the gunman? Thank goodness he decided to end his own life and save the citizens of NY some ammo cash.) They need practice just like anyone else. And with a mayor that is so anti gun he closed all but two facilities for the officers to practice at, 'training' takes a backseat. 5 lanes, limited hours, enough cops to police a town of 8 million people... sure doesn't fit in with the image of Law & Order does it?

Mr. Lewis was approximately 18 years of age in 1968. Chances are very good that Mr. Lewis was on a government sponsored vacation in a tropical setting learning various skills that may be useful for situational awareness. Columbine High's guard was hiding in the parking lot booth after firing because even cops that get shot at make more than 10 an hour and have health insurance. He didn't. He wasn't going to die for his job. Can't say I blame him.

"The newest national surveys" just stop right there. If you aren't going to have the seeds to back up your hack hyperbole with some actual cited works, we don't require your opinions. Especially on numbers with a descriptor of 'ish'. Cite a study or a report with an actual sample size in the scientific range that has some link to credibility or keep your babble to yourself and anyone else that only thinks in lengths of sound bytes.

We have every right to have laws limiting what weapons Citizens can own. You can't own a RPG, You can't own a M16 or a BAR. You can't own a fully loaded M1A1 or an Apache attack helicopter. I don't think you should own a AR15, SKS or a Glock with a 30 round clip. Guess what, those are items that have no purpose but to kill people, as many as possible as quickly as possible. It is pure unadulterated bullshit that you need those things for hunting, recreation or home protection. You WANT them because it make you feel like a Big Man, and stokes your fantasies of "Watering the Tree of Liberty". But what really happens is someone in your household is at statistically significant greater risk of being accidentally shot or die by self inflected gun shot. Sometimes the truth's a Bitch. Man up and Grow up. Put the toys away for the greater good.

You-a, you are aware that not every soldier in the service is required to operate a tank, helicopter, or (insert something you can't fit into your back pocket here)? As a previous poster pointed out, you *can* own RPG's, DD (destructive devices). M16's (both tri burst and full auto). and a BAR. You can also own magazines with any capacity and firearms that do away with the mag completely and are belt fed. (if you actually call magazines 'clips' you haven't handled many outside of the ones presented incorrectly for your viewing infotainment on the news.) Silencers, short barreled shotguns, AOW's... the sky and your wallet are the limit.

Truth of the matter is this: you don't get to determine whether or not anyone 'needs' these things or anything else. And we all may thank our appropriate deities (if applicable) for it. Your inability to leave your judgements at the door and your constant demeaning tone inferring that gun owners are fantasizing about murder is a poor example of your own failings. Perhaps you should instead focus on not using fantastical numbers as credible evidence... or maybe find some way to reset your jaded image of folks who don't need a reason or an excuse to own a firearm. They just do.

As for militias and the magnitude of "shall not be infringed" here's an updated, properly sourced document on the second that includes reference to the most recent arguments before the fed courts.

I am of the opinion that you might not be much of a reader though, so here's a

cliff notes type video that's less than 90 seconds.

I speak for myself and the people I have met during the years: no one wants to carry and have to use their firearm. Its the kind of thing that can put an instaknot in your stomach and nearly making you puke thinking about it... and there are some that don't carry because of it. And that is their choice. If the party that gave women the right to choose to have an abortion ever got their collective heads out of their asses and realized that this is another choice the people get to make, not government... the other main party would wink out of existence.

People slacked in protecting the first amendment... and now its a felony for a bank manager to tell a customer that someone is searching their private records, safety deposit boxes, insurance receipts, credit statements etc if you are served with a National Security Letter. If you challenge that letter in court you will be arrested upon leaving the courtroom. That's why every challenge thusfar has been made anonymously. You are also free to be wiretapped and we used to make a big deal out of that... now... your speech is not only no longer free, its not even private. Sorry Tony, over the past 20 years I have watched protection after protection fall or be worked around. Even with the entirely laughable previous AWB, Bill Clinton looks like the only president that actually still thought all of the rights enumerated in the constitution and the bill of rights were important both to America and its citizens. We the individuals hold the rights. If you toss yours away that is your choice.

Speaking of the Clinton era, according to the United States Department of Justice survey in 1994 titled, Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms, an estimated 1.5 million Defensive Gun Uses happen annually.

I'll take those people who can act responsibly with tools over 'decent' people any day.

Depression is a hell of a thing to lose someone to. While there are as many different ways of checking out as there are flavors at Baskin Robbins (well more but you get my drift) the shock of losing someone so abruptly is harsh indeed. You have my sympathies.

Yeah. I sold the gun to a local gun store in Columbia yesterday to get the rest of the money for the E30 I'm buying tonight.

And made all my money back. PLAYA PLAYA

But you gonna use the E30 to ram the evil doers when they come to steal your internet?

(E30? Hope that's for a daily and you haven't been misled into thinking of one of those as a rally object)

Yeah, but I have to put the correct Riken rimpz on it first.

And actually, yeah it's for my new daily. If I do a rally thing it'll be the Xratty. but I'm too busy to do any sort of project car, let alone a rally one. So that's on hold for now. I'm not sorry, James.
I was hanging out with some friends and they had to go to work, so there was an E30 on CL that was nearby, so I popped over for a test drive and it was pretty good. A little ghetto, but fun to drive. It's an '85 325e with a toasted 2nd gear synchro. It pops out of 2nd sometimes, but that's it.
