Need (somewhat rally related) Advice.
March 05, 2014 06:05AM
I have a big decision coming up. I'll be looking to move with my company in bit, and I have the option to head out to work in Boston, Newark, LA or Orlando. Due to various reasions, I have cut this down to Boston (living in New Hampshire) or Orlando.
I currently live in NY.

I'm a pretty big rally fan, and intend to start competing on a small scale as soon as my car starts coming around.

So, I know NH is a better 'rally' area, but is the South East/Florida as desolate as I think it is as far as Stage events are concerned? If i'm not mistaken, the closest stage rally is Sandblast...

I know a few people from here are from NH. Would you suggest somebody move there, And make that commute to Boston?

Flar-duh? No. Orlando, definitely no.

Nude Hampster, meh... Nude Hampster and commute down fawkin Route 3 twice a day?
Are you fawkin nuts?
You outta FREAKING Mind?

How invested are you in stayin wif the company?

I mean if you can consider a relocation for one reason then you can consider a relocation, Right?

Well does it has to be wif dis company?
Its a big country, there are pretty parts all over.
Some places the economies aren't bad, cost of living OK, rally scene reasonable, of just more relaxed...

Life's short Bob, being someplace nice is good.

Flar-duh, no
Boston, no.

Boston isn't that bad as long as you are somewhere outside of boston... but then the commute would blow balls.

I like florida, lived there for a while. Its boring when it comes to cars but the beaches are nice. I'm with John, move to colorado or the PNW.

If I had to work in Boston, I think I'd give up on playing with cars and embrace alcoholism. The most commuteable parts of NH to Mass. are basically North Mass. now anyway. I spend nearly two hours a day in the car just slogging to ManchVegas from a place I consider habitable.

Honestly out of those options I'd choose LA and I fairly despise LA.

Don't buy a house in NH and work in MA. You'll pay enormous property taxes in NH on top of your income tax in MA. Bring lube.

I've lived lived north of Boston my whole life and worked close to the city for too long. The commute has gotten ridiculous. Too many people coming out of NH into the city. I'm lucky to be able to work later hours and I avoid some traffic that way. In the summer, everyone goes to NH after work so you can't escape it then.

Where exactly would you be working? I can tell you how much it would suck to commute there. What would normally be a 35 minute drive could take you 2 hours each way. Every...day...of...your...ever...shortening...life...

Tim, I'd be working at the airport. I've done that drive fairly recently... it took a while, but I was hoping to chalk that up to that tunnel (callahan?) being closed...

Grant, I'd probably enjoy LA if it wasn't... you know. LA. I did the drive from LA to LV last year and absolutely loved it.

John, Well I guess I'll have to look around.

I think you all have me convinced that, like I had suspected but was hoping was wrong, all these options suck.

I could stay in NY, But I work for a living, I'm a car guy, and a gun guy, the state has made it fairly clear that they don't want either.

Well... hell. Now what.

If you're working at Logan...it might suck slightly less to do the drive from the Hampton/Exeter area on i95 to Route 1 to 1a. Also might be able to ride the bus from there direct to Logan.

Sitting in traffic is wickiD awwwwsum!

Not that Colorado was on your list...and there are no "close" rallies, but I got out of Boston as soon as I had the opportunity to experience living somewhere better.

It took me almost an hour to get down to fawking Inverness today for work. WTF was I thinking taking a real job... Guess I gotta leave earlier in the morning.

Denver traffic can be bad at times, but public transit is getting much better with the light rail expansions. Not that that helps since obviously not one of your choices and Colorado is a test bed for gun control so you'd either enjoy living here as it'd give you something to complain about or you'd hate it because your rights are so infringed upon. smiling smiley

all I remember of Boston when I visited as a teenager, is that it was so damn cold, I got from PA/MD line to DOWN TOWN Boston, with no water in my coolant system. "Air cooled" Toyota engine the whole way there and back.

Seemed like a decent place, even as a broke kid on a 2 night stay. But I'm from PA, and probably considered a northeasterner, and swayed by that.

What's the closest rallies, BRS and STPR? Is there stuff up in Canadia that way?

So, Other than that ORD itself sucks, Why is Florida so bad? The guys I work with who live there (and work during the week in NY) really dig it.

And am I wrong in thinking that the best general area for the rally fan in the East is Eastern PA, with STPR, BRS, ESPR all close?

Anyone who was in the Eastern PA/NJ area that can tell me that the drive from Newark to PA isn't as long as it looks?

If you value freedom and liberty don't come to the northeast.

I hated it here (CT) in the early 70's, and I left with no plans to return. Came back in the mid 80's. If I wasn't married I would have left here in 1990, but am stuck here.

I won't even go to Massachusettes. I hate that commie shit-hole more than this commie shit-hole.
