My girlfriend left me… Said cars were too important to me

This always seems to be a topic that people joke about but now that I've experienced it, I must say DAMN she was right. Seems like I spend more time in the garage now days than out with people anyone figured out how to moderate?

Should become clear at some point that family life and relationships are important. From time to time you will get stuck in the garage getting the car ready for an event, but make sure to make time to spend with people when the event is over. You also have to find a girl who understands the situation, just dont abuse it.

I ended my first long term relationship thanks to rally cars. In all honestly, rally cars were more important than her and our relationship to me so we ended it.
My first marriage ended due to severe unhappiness from both sides. I attribute much of my own to a lack of rally car progress due to her being a lazy unemployed mooching cunt and me paying for everything. Would have ended quickly any way you look at it. Naturally after the fact all my friends told me I shouldn't have married her, none said anything before though...
My wife now is awesome, supportive, and amazing. While not sharing the same interest, she recognizes that it is important to me and deals with it. However, I also make sure that it is not dominating my life and set specific days and times that I do rally car stuff.

That mean you're going put your gawddam car back together and at least run it some?

I've been doing bits and pieces here and there. Might even have an engine and gearbox in it by end of weekend.

seems to be directly linked to Derek Bottle's post about our inability to predict future happiness.

I got the Thinking book Derek brought up.

I suppose that came off wrong as I could care less at this point, was more an insight into how I was feeling then and how that can lead to unhappiness. But I also learned more in that time about what I want and need in life and came out a much better and happier person! I don't believe in mistakes, only learning experiences. It's the mistakes we make in life that make us unique. If no one made mistakes in someone else's viewpoint, we'd all do the exact same thing and the world would be boring.

I've never had that happen, though I recently turned a guy down because he didn't have enough interest in cars (ok, that was only 1/2 the reason, other half was that he drinks too much imo). But the car thing was a huge factor.

The fact that he came to a rallycross and got out of the car because it was too rough pretty much sealed the deal.

He also can't drive stick. And owns a Cavelier (ok, he gets a pass on that, sorta, since he got it for free, but still, yes I guess that makes me a car snob)

Wow, I'm kind of a picky bitch, no wonder I'm still single spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

back in november i bought my ex a firebird t-top car for our anniversary that would have been yesterday

no worries she moved out back in december

i still have a firebird to do something with

point being its a give and take thing
if you can't meet in the middle then just don't meet at all

i should have run when she said "shifting gears is dumb!"

I would rather drive a slow car fast as a fast car slow!
first rule of cars: get what makes you happy, your the one paying for it!

My wife tried that shit 25 years ago, for her birthday, I bought her a set of tools, and a pair of coveralls, all my friends know where to find me, so does the wife.

Just as an asides, she's a better wrench than a lot of my friends...
