Kids with Go Karts
June 27, 2014 07:31PM
My daughter is nine, my son just turned 7. My wife and I like to keep them outside as much as possible. In there great Northeast its tough, cold winter is like 6 months long. The wife wanted a trampoline, i was having non of it. i checked with my neighbor about a go kart i could see under a tape behind his garage. later that day after a 50' push we had a full blown go kart rehab. $1.89 for fuel hose proved in ran.
here are the stats:
tecumseh 5 HP
open live axle of sorts
4" single wheel band brake over drum (park brake omitted)
6" steering wheel with a .5:1 ratio, pivot steering.
seatbelt-less bench seat for two, 3" front to back slider.
"worn(good used)" turf saver tires
Kill switch
oil change, $30 carb, $20 clutch, misc odds ands ends. And we have a runnah bubs! midst a brisk shake down up and down the road at 23 mph i heard my son say it.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY, FOREVER!
kids are kind of cool to. smiling smiley

I'm sure they'll have a blast! My toy growing up was an air cooled 80cc 2-stroke. I burned so many laps on that bike, and loved every minute of it.

A go kart would have been equally as fun, but we could go out adventure riding on dirt bikes from out driveway. Ah, the good old days!

I had my first law enforcement experience at age 8 for riding my Honda ATC 70 three-wheeler on the road. Ooops. I still get messed up riding anything else from learning to deliberately lean to the outside of the turn to kick the tail out. Karts are fun if you have the space to run them. Had some friends growing up with a 15 acre or so strawberry patch with a network of roads around the outsideā€¦that was a good place to play!

How much space do you need to build a mini mini mini Kart track? I've got 1.27 Acres but its hilly ... (could make for a great track ... or a roll over... lol)

That kart looks perfect. bet he's having a blast.

Not sure on the track. the boy has got it good. we live 300' from a gravel pit. gated, 4 wheelers, ATV kosher. smooth roads, big piles of sand to jump off and tons of cool "rare rocks". Maybe some front skis and heavily studded rear tires for winter time usage. save up a few bucks and get some fresh rubbers for spring!

You wouldent need that much if you lay it out like a Supercross track with a lot of hairpins and using cones to designate turns and what not. Thats what I remember my dad and I doing as a little kid when I had a little beater kart.

Started shopping for one for my kids... I keep getting tempted by the Kid Kart racing class they run around here... But I'm not sure I can afford it.

Awesome pic Brian!!
I too had a great time as snot nosed kid ripping thru a field and building jumps that seemed so huge but were maybe 16" high.

My wife actually paused and almost said yes to getting one for my girls. The gears are turningsmiling smiley

Of course with girls you need two and three or more of everything so as not to fight and just rally!

Once we get some land I'll start a cart build thread!
