All I heard in that video was cubic dollars being flushed down the toilet keeping an Audi rallycar together :p

Seriously though, after my 1993 S4 experience, NEVER AGAIN... even though I felt like an 80's wrc driver when sideways on winter roads in it (the sound is exhilarating for sure)!

Hill climb spec so bit easier. It was fun and sounded awesome!

And Keith is making the event bigger with new stages/loops this year is my understanding... and rallysafe :p
Lost some of the new mileage, waiting to hear back from forestry on the rest of it.
Rallysafe is unlikely to be at BigWhite this year.
Competitor Bulletin 1 for Rocky says RallySafe will be in the entire field there. No extra cost to the competitor in that case. (and no, adam, the higher fees for RMR this year are not because of RallySafe, the fees were set long before the deal was struck for the demo event)

John: the actual cost to the competitor for RallySafe hasn't been determined yet. Your constant - and blatantly dishonest - inflation of the estimated amount does little to accurately inform people of the situation.

Of course not, because you'd also find the part where I said the reason CARS hasn't adopted RallySafe yet is BECAUSE the price could hit $120 to $150 per car and there isn't - yet - sponsorship for it.

I'm such a weirdo.. i hope Big White Winter doesn't have rallysafe when i finally am able to attend (looking like 2015) pretty sure they will have it by then..

but hey, if the 2015 price is the same as the 2014 Price, and they manage to add rallysafe then sure. sounds cool .. i think ... this way everyone will know for sure i'm stuck in the snowbank ... lol

I guess I have to ask... do you hope the event doesn't have it because you have some fear of being tracked, or because you're buying the 'hype' that it will push the event entry fees up by $200? (There is only one person saying RallySafe will cost the competitor $150-$200 per event... and he's hanging on to the 'Rumours, Lies & Damn Lies' title of this sub-forum fairly tightly.)

I can't predict 2015 pricing now, I do know we're facing a new permitting process that may change the fees we pay to the government.

Pricing fears mostly, and some fear of the unknown too ... (equipment liability fears, intercom interference, and requirements to house the unit)

I'm guessing there will be some sorta crazy easy universal install like hey this part hooks onto any 1.75" bar and we happen to know every car here will have a lot of those..

for big white specifically its got the whole (only snow rally that allows Studs) thing going for it ... so I'm likely to be willing to pay a bit more for that compared to what ever 'value' i expect in the south west.

I would be a bit concerned about what if i break it?

I hadn't worried about being tracked, but now that you mention it ... would really suck to get an penalty cause you went 1 kmh over on transit ...

but ya mostly from a cost thing. extra fee to enter, and what if i some how break the darn thing.. i'm very talented at breaking stuff... smiling smiley

there's about a 0% chance this would keep me away from big white winter... only 3 things that can do that (and i have all 3 ) broken rally car, broken wallet, broken tow rig (although i got that one fixed on friday!)

I'm well aware Keith, I've been talking with people quite extensively. Of course, the only reason this is free is because OTHERS are paying for it, with a substantial amount coming from (I believe) a single competitor himself to cover the costs. The fees for Rocky are higher for numerous reasons (but that is for a different discussion).

Edit-
And the $150 fee I feel is accurate based on the information YOU and others have provided, and I've been fairly explicit in the reasons that would be the number that would be seen and how that number would go lower.

You yourself have said to not rely on sponsorship for steady income... once rallysafe is adopted, it doesn't go away, whether there are sponsors for it or not.

My understanding is it is from a third party sponsorship brought in by a competitor to help fund the full field test. (Which strongly suggests this is something that would attract sponsorship to offset operating costs)

Stop being mean to Mommy Morison, its mean to remind people that they have "estimated' that the cost would "ONLY add" around $150 per car---estimated. To begin with...
And after? we all know how this ALWAYS go up, and it is mean to remeind people of what they have said dozens and dozens of times...

Be nice..he'll come and explain in letter-by-letter detail why when he said whatever he said it means this---or that...
That's what Media and Hype people do for a job.

Even if i agree 100% with you for the second time in last few days.

Sure, ok, if we are going to debate semantics, a third party sponsor paid for part of it (I have no details, because I don't need them as you've made sure to point out, and clearly you aren't interested in providing said details because as usual, its all the damn pronoun game with you), the rest is out of RallyWest', RPM, and CARS pocket, which may have changed since I last heard anything about it, because as you made it clear (to reiterate), I have little to no power in dealing with it.

RallySafe.

This was used by a few cars at LSPR this year.

I can tell you that I was in the sweep truck and we tried to get information about a missing car (that had a RallySafe unit) via net and by 30-40 minutes after they had gone off we still had not received any information that might have been produced by the unit/system. Ten to fifteen minutes after they went off, net noticed and attempted to use the standard "ask the next car if they've seen them" technique.

So as far as that rally, that day, that stage, to med sweep / first sweep, there was no additional benefit provided by the $700 that the racers spent for the system.

It's not a study, just a single example.

You really should pay attention to EVERYTHING, not cherry pick the juicy bits you want.

Frankly, if CARS were willing to have the system cost each competitor $120 to $150 per event, it would have been adopted last year, or earlier.
