I'll copy and paste :

***

Dear Morten,

Thank you for your enquiry about the compliance of your Dodge Colt with our new and pending rule changes. As I can tell from the pictures you sent, your car "seems" to be in compliance with the current rules.

However we have just drafted our proposed rule changes for the 2007 season.

Main hoop to be increased to 2"
6 point harnesses (5 point will be obsolete after 2006)
Maximum fuel octane shall be 96
All cars to carry minimum 2 spare tires
Headlights not to exceed 85 Watts

***

Well I don't think I'll be doing any Rally America events anytime soon.

think the 2'' mail hoop is seriously going to happen.

i might ota think about doing that . it would be hard

to replace a 1.75.

I don't really see a big issue with rollcage changes for NEW builds. But foolish "pulled out of a hat" safty changes that affect everyone really seem to be a pain in the ass. Like the Rally America "Spill Kit" like what the hell? are they afraid we might kill some squirrels if we leak some antifreeze on the way or something?

2003- Club rally gets cancelled
2004- SCCA drops rally, Rally now run by private company of Bozos
2005- No newbies in PGT,Grp5,Open
2006- More stupid rules then one can think of(fuel cell, etc)
2007- My cage is obsolete be for even one rally

Nope, probably never going to run an RA event.

-Newbie with a Group 5 car and an FIA spec Group A cage with a 1.75" main hoop.

I figured it out. RA is big business. Face it, if you know where Doug's money comes from, it's obvious. New ridiculous cage rule BUT, you'll still be able to use homologated FIA cages. So now, instead of fabricating your own or paying an independent person to do so, you have to buy a cage kit. There are only a few suppliers. Those suppliers get business they have more income, they have a bigger benefit to sponsoring rally and thus, Rally America generates more revenues. I've been in smaller rally cars with good tight fitting cages with 1.5" and 1.75" main hoops that I was already close to. Wouldn't the ability to bend at tighter radii result in less tight fit too?

Yeah. But you fucked up on a few points.

It's 7 point belts that are now required. And must be FIA and expire every 6 months.

And not 85 watts max, but all main and auxillary driving lights must be HID.

And all drivers must weigh at least 265 lbs.

"And all drivers must weigh at least 265 lbs."

I foresee a Burger King sponsored car and FIA Lazy-Boy seats with CARBONated beverage dispensers.
